Scion: Making History Modern

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Storyguides and other Scion players have the whole range of our world’s myths, legends, and folktales to draw on for inspiration.

Gods and Heroes, bound by Fate to live up to the personas created by their actions, find themselves reenacting old tales in new ways. As they do, they give new life to their myths and make even the most ancient of them meaningful in the modern World.

Ideally, this is also what players do when they look at those myths: find the elements they feel are significant and try to answer the question, “What would it look like if it happened now?”

Making History Modern is Storyteller advice designed for use with Scion: Origin Second Edition and Scion: Hero Second Edition.

This PDF is part of the “Storypath Tasty Bits” program, where every month in 2022 Onyx Path offers a small product that ties into one of its Storypath games.

Also available from Onyx Path Publishing:

DemigodScion Second Edition Book Three: Demigod

The Gods made your World, and one way or another, they made you. Every God was once mortal. You stand at the threshold of humanity and divinity and cross over into the lands beyond the World. As the Titans rattle their cages, and you confront your own mortality, you live your myth, and you shed your mortality. Win or lose, the people will speak of your Legend forever more.

Scion: Demigod presents the next stage in a Scion’s evolution with new pantheons, expanding upon setting elements and systems, and giving Storyguides and players a guide for massive setpiece fights in the Storypath system. It also gives guidance on how to play through the requisite Milestones to reach Godhood and claim your character’s birthright.

This book includes:

  • Divinity dice, collateral damage rules, and Dominion Boons to showcase your character’s power
  • Demigod-level expansions for Birthrights
  • Five new pantheons — Mesopotamian, Incan, Polynesian, Slavic, and Mongolian, all suitable for parentage of your Scion
  • Storyguiding advice on how to play the ascent to apotheosis and becoming a God

An absolutely tremendous work that manages to accomplish three very important things in a very short amount of time: 1) Provide Storyguides with inspiration for how to use the "All Myths Are True" framework. It's not merely that t [...]

A very insightful and thoughtful look into the nature of stories, and plenty of good advice on how to look for and collect the story elements for remixing them for your Scion games. Would recommend for all Storyguides, and for anybody who likes playing [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
