Pawns in a Greater Game - The 2nd Book of Factions

Welcome to "Pawns in a Greater Game", a complete, agnostic rule system that allows you to take control of a whole organization and lead it into peace or war!

"Mercenary armies gather for battle, circles of wizards assemble for arcane rituals, cleric orders chant mighty prayers to their gods while insidious crime families lurk in the shadows. It is the deeds and desires of mighty organizations that shape the world."

“Pawns in a Greater Game” gives you all the tools and rules that you need to flesh out the factions of your game world and lead them into peace or war. It includes eight distinct classes for factions, 18 skills, a list of over 30 feats and all manners of equipment for organizations.

This book can be used as a companion to all types of fantasy RPG campaigns, no matter what rule system you are using, allowing the gamemaster to play the “greater game” of factions behind the scenes, giving them rules to decide which organizations come out on top in the constant struggle for power and which ones are ground to dust beneath the wheels of history.

Alternatively, this book can be used as prologue to an RPG campaign, an important aide to in-depth worldbuilding, setting the stage for the player characters’ arrival, determining the relationships and history the factions of your gameworld have with each other and potentially allowing your players to be a significant part of campaign worldbuilding before even making their characters.

Thirdly the rules of this book can be used detached from any campaign, as a stand-alone narrative boardgame of sorts where mighty fantasy organizations battle and scheme for supremacy.

As a sister book to “Invisible Hands” (see below), our previously released collection of factions, “Pawns in a Greater Game” also includes rules for playing all twenty organizations presented in that first book, from the insidious “Eye of God” to the maliciously pitiful “Little Spiders”.

The rules presented in this book draw upon the basics of the 5th Edition for the world’s most famous roleplaying game, but you neither need to own nor be familiar with that RPG to be able to use Pawns in a Greater game.

“Invisible Hands” presents a detailed guide on how (and why!) to create factions in your fantasy game and also holds twenty fully fleshed-out factions of different kinds that you can directly put into your RPG setting! "Unseen Strings" holda another twenty detailed factions, plus all the stats and equipment these factions would have according to the rules from Pawns in a Greater Game!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
