WesternGothicCardGame.png

If a fella’ wants to play a fantasy-western game, then this game has everything they need with a little more on top, as a treat.

That includes:

  • A cinematic world (including its map) of lawless frontiers and high noons

  • Knowhow for makin' and playin' all manner a' cowpunchers, duelists, desperadoes, law-dogs, preachers, witches, or whatever varmint ya might find on a dusty trail

  • impossible machines, strange mutations, and spells that rend the fabric of reality with three different magic systems, all of them strange and folksy

  • More high-falutin' pictorals than you can shake a stick at (over 40 pieces of art)

  • Fates resolved by the turn of a card instead of a roll of the dice

  • A wild action economy wherein every draw of the card and pistol is a wager against one’s foes, where every round of combat is a showdown

So sit down at a table with your pardners, ante up a few bits, and try your hand at bein' a desperado. There’s enough scribblin' and scrawlin' in here to fill 140 pages and change. With that much ground to cover, best to gitty up and go.

Hi, this game looks great. I'm not sure on the page count but is it viable you might do a POD release?

I apologize for the late response. It took me far longer than I anticipated to organize a print version, primarily due to some difficulties converting what was originally a text document in Google Docs into Indesign.

However, I have since submitted a trial version to the printers. I should be able to get a softcover POD released soon.

This sounds cool... But could you tell us something about the mechanics, please? Thanks!

Ah, most certainly, it seems that I may have been too poetic in my description.

The game uses a standard deck of 54 playing cards (including both red and black jokers). Instead of rolling dice, players draw cards as a resolution mechanic. The more cards someone draws, the more likely they are to draw a good hand.

The system is also a skill-based system instead of a class-based system, so players can combine Attributes, Skills, and Qualities in whichever way they think will make the most interesting character.

Finally, the action economy has three elements: allotment, declaration, and resolution. Characters have a number of actions equal to their Quickness Attribute (allotment), characters declare their actions starting from the lowest initiative, moving up to the highest (declaration), and then the best hand resolves first before moving on in descending order (resolution).

There’s no action economy like it, and it really captures the intensity of a showdown...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
