Fathomless Despair, A Third-Party Mörk Borg Poster

Death is the least of your concerns if you are foolish enough to visit this horrible and dark place. The air and soil are filled with the stench of undeath as a lingering evil makes its presence known to all who explore this desolate land.

Do you want to know even more about the valley? Check out Return to the Valley of Despair!

The core rules describe the Valley of the Unfortunate Undead as a place where “a slow-growing, fathomless despair” weighs down travelers “with poisoned memories and dark thoughts until the spark of life is mutated into a mournful, hopeless undeath.”

With only a single page dedicated to this place in the game’s core rulebook, it is up to the gamemaster to flesh out and populate it. This area that is pregnant with adventuring opportunities. To assist you in constructing this terrible valley, I’ve created Fathomless Despair, a third-party Mörk Borg pocket map that gives you just enough ideas to get your imagination rolling.

In addition to the location descriptions, this work also includes game stats for new undead monsters as well as a few different random encounter tables. You can turn to these whenever the adventurers are exploring the valley. You will need only the game’s core rules, this pocket map, and the usual trappings of an RPG (including your own imagination) to make use of this material. However, you may find my first pocket map – Tome of Skulls – useful if you’re looking for even more undead monsters that might inhabit this valley.

As with all of my contributions under the third-party Mörk Borg license, Fathomless Despair is intended solely as an inspirational work. Everything within may – must! – be changed to fit your exact tastes.

This PDF was created thanks to the support of 476 backers who joined in the Kickstarter campaign for Fathomless Despair. Thank you to all of the supporters for making that campaign a success!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
