EZD6 Core Rulebook

From the tabletop madness of DM SCOTTY crawls EZD6!

A rules-light D6 RPG system that puts creativity over complexity, but delivers a suprising amount of variation and mechanical wiggle.

Hey guys it's Hankerin from Runehammer. I have been in the DM Scotty cult for years. He's a great guy, and has a trillion hours at the table. All that creativity and table time really shines in this core book. You can just feel the Scotty-ness. So when this project came across my anvil, I had to throw down my best efforts!

That's when I found Sean Bova, who arted this book with such brilliance.

Here's what you can expect:

-EZD6 Core rules: D6 dice pooling with a few key innovations like boons and banes, strikes instead of hit points and variable damage, and a fun player micro-resource called karma.

-9 Hero Paths: Scotty cooks the classics with his own spices. Each hero path is nicely separate from the next, with key roles to give you that MVP feeling in your group.

-20 classic monsters, 20 crazy ones: This is my favorite section of the book. Placing emphasis on a monster's narrative specialities, rather than numeric, seems too open-ended, but these horrors just nail it. The entries are tight enough to play cold, but weird enough to mod and enjoy from memory.

-Tables: No RPG is complete without random ways to select baddies, treasures, NPC names, lair details, story twists, and more. We got those covered.

I can't wait for y'all to dive in to EZD6. Now go forth and roll!

A Note on EZD6 by Professor Dungeonmaster of Dungeoncraft...

The vermin stepped through a hole in the basement wall, skulking and sniffing. I leaped out and buried my axe in one’s skull. The thief skewered another from behind. The mage torched another, filling the air with the smell of burning rat hair…

That’s how I met DM Scotty. I had seen him, of course, on the DM’s craft, making purple worms out of toilet paper rolls and dungeonscapes out of corrugated cardboard. His YouTube channel, The DM’s Craft, was (and still is!) one of the inspirations for my own, and when he invited me to game with him over Zoom, I jumped at the chance—not just because he’s one of my YouTube idols, but because he was going to run his top-secret EZD6 system.

Some folks say you shouldn’t meet your idols—that it’s often a disappointing experience. But Scotty was just as enthusiastic and gregarious as he is onscreen, and EZD6 was even cooler than I could have imagined! When I received the beta rules, I was blown away. Within 10 minutes I completely understood the system and created a completely original, detailed character. Pretty soon my playtest group were furiously hacking our way through a sewer filled with rat men.

EZD6 is immediately understandable to experienced gamers and accessible to new ones. You never need to stop to look up rules—everything is right there on your character sheet. Spells can be created on the spot. Karma and hero dice allow players lots of choices. Exploding dice mean you can potentially kill anything—and monsters can kill you.

To my mind, the fast, elegant EZd6 rules allow the game to be more immersive and intuitive—more like watching a movie than playing a TTRPG. So, grab a handful of d6s and let the fun begin!

I can't stress this enough. I love the game, I saw the videos, and I want to buy the hardcover SO SO much. But the shipping, costs as much as the book itself. That is huge. Don't you think that ttrpgs are played only in America, there are milions of people in Europe and Asia and Australia and much much more. If only there was an online store, or anything that you could buy from if you live in EUROPE. You would have 5 times the sales. Just put it on amazon or any other big retailer that can distribute it en masse, along with other deliveries and people will start buying it all over the world.

And I'm saying this with pain in heart because I know a lot of rpg lovers and friends who want to buy various products like this, and just don't because of the shipping costs

Quick question:
I bought the PDF when it came out but want to pick up the hardcover because I always want a physical copy when I really like a book. Has it been updated? Because the PDF has a few minor issues like typos and such.
Just curious.

Question: what is the bookmarked version for?

Great book, exactly the simplicity I was looking for in ages :)
A big congratulations to DMScotty.

So glad you like the game. The bookmarks make it easy to hop to a chapter or section of the book instantly.

I'm curious how this might compare with the Year Zero D6 pooled dice system from Free League or the D20 but simple and brilliant system used for Mork Borg?

For me, the main advantage is that it is not as 'fiddly' or, you might say time wasting as Year Zero (all that decision and rerolls eats up time that quickly adds up at the table). As far as D20 systems they are just a D6 system with more needless range. A 4 on a D6 is the same as a 10 on a D20. Same thing, just more wasted # space. Since you always roll D6 in EZD6 no time is wasted swapping out or collecting different die types. EZD6 is fast and smooth as a butter-slathered game.

Another option is to check out the numerous vids online.

Please fix the numbering. When trying to print it gets messed up because the first 6 pages are numbered 1-6, but then pages 7 onward restart at 1. Makes it impossible for me to print for example pages 1-20 odd, then flip around to print other side even. The system interprets two different pages as having numbers 1-6. Could do something like F1-F6, then 1-xxxx so that the system has 1 identifier for each page.

I checked it on both bookmarked and non-bookmarked. If I try to set the print range as 1-10, my print dialog tells me its a 16 page print job.
If I scroll to the 7th page of the non-bookmarked pdf, I see "1 (7 / 120)"
This makes it very hard to print. I'd suggest a different method of "numbering" the intro pages.
i, ii, iii, iv, v...... or F1, F2, F3.... chose any letter. Anything so that there are not duplicate pages with the same number.

I found a wonky walk-around where I printed to PDF, made it an "Image" pdf which causes quality loss, then printed that to real paper.

Love the content, just struggled with the PDF and thought I should reach out to help others.

Thanks

Is that awesome black and green (maybe yellow ... sorry colorblind) hardback version still available?

Either way I'm picking this up. Watched a ton of videos on it and this totally fits my DM style. Congrats to DM Scotty and Runehammer.

Hey there folks,
I'd love to get this as well as the Book of Quests hardcover copies, but I can't understand how the print/shipping would work with me being in Italy. The product looks great, but I've had bad experiences with customs and I'd like to avoid getting the books shipped from the US if possible. What do you suggest?

A fun system that's super easy to explain and get started fairly quickly. I taught my group the basics, went through the creation of 3 characters AND played a full adventure from "You meet in a tavern" to "You defeat the Boss and loot the treasure hoard" all in one 5 hour session!
Some things are a bit too vague for me though. The wealth system for instance, when the party loots a monster den, does that put them at wealth level "Moderate" or "Cash Poor"? If the party has gained enough wealth to be at Wealth Level "Lordly Wealth", how many "Lordly" purchases can they make before they have spent so much that they go to the next Wealth Level down? That part of the system (in my opinion) isn't "simple", it's "incomplete".
I understand that this is sort of gonna be a judgement call for the RR, but still, some guidelines could've been laid out in the rules I think. If anyone has any guidance or suggestions on that, it'd much...See more

I made a mistake at checkout and bought the hardback without the pdf. Is there a way to add the pdf later or do I have to purchase the pdf for $12.50? Maybe it just sucks to be me today:)

Since they don’t allow designers to write reviews, I’ll just write it here.
If you saw the D&D movie and wanted a game that plays like that, this is for you.
It’s very easy to run as a GM and easy to play. We played a whole adventure in one sitting. If I were to play the exact same scenario with a d&d system it would take 3 times as long. Nothing in the game drags because of it’s simple mechanics.
Players have a good amount of character options to make the character they envision. It’s got all the classics, warriors, wizards, and the mechanics make them feel like they’re supposed to with very little overhead on the GM’s part in having to look up the rules.
Some caveats; if you’re looking for a lot of mechanical complexity this may not be for you. Also, because of its rules light nature, it expects the GM to make some on the fly calls about difficulty and mechanics.
But overall, great RPG system.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
