Three Realities. One Story

Affinity represents a bold, innovative approach to tabletop role-playing—a trilogy of worlds presenting unique ideas and rules but sharing similar themes, names, and even a common menace.

Select one setting or shift between all three. While they complement one another, they are not dependent, with each game standing on its own.

Each volume of Affinity contains unique and exciting mechanics compatible with 5th Edition rules, including new races, classes, backgrounds, weapons, armor, vehicles, spells, and monsters.

Humans and aliens find themselves trapped upon a gargantuan alien ark. Abandoned and adrift, the residents are forced to explore the catacombs of the strange vessel, scavenging and crafting technology. Employing powered armor and emerging individuals possessing psionic abilities, factions battle for control over resources, technology, and the secrets of their new home.

Assume alien races and six new backgrounds

Tap the chaotic energies of the mind to become a psionic metron.

Master elemental powers with the geospoiler, hydromancer, tempest, and thermal classes

Create over 10,000 different firearms with dozens of variables at your control

Construct anything you can imagine through new crafting rules

Modify over forty different mecha with more than 150 upgrades

Uncover new loot with revised treasure tables

Fight over forty-five new monsters

(Part of the Affinity Trilogy: be sure to check out Torus and Paradise!)

While this book (and others in the Affinity trilogy) are based on rules presented in Ultramodern5, that book, while recommended, is not technically required as all relevant rules have been reprinted within this book. Ultramodern5 offers alternative weapons, opponents, and more classes.

The maker path trees appear to have 3 main columns each emphasizing a specific damage type. Is there a reason why for all four paths the column on the right discontinues and breaks 6 steps in?

Right before ignore terrain for the geospoiler, before the 2nd endure acid for the hydromancer, before the 2nd endure force for the tempest, & the 2nd endure cold for the thermal.

Also, what does “+1 minute” 6 steps into the water column of the hydromancer tree refer to? There doesn’t appear to be a +1 minute description in the hydromancer tree steps.

Sorry for the delay in answering: I was at a convention all weekend.
(Rages at my cartographer!)
Wow, yeah, there are supposed to be two paths branching from the lower two benefits to the upper one. Let's get that fixed.
+1 Minute is missing its description. That will get fixed as well. It doubles the duration of Tentacles, Toxic Storm, and Water Trap

The geospoiler tree appears to be based on a thunder, piercing or necrotic damage progression. However, there doesn’t seem to be any specific geospoiler powers with the thunder damage type.

Outside of thunderwrath, (which is 4 steps into the geospoiler tree) were there geospoiler powers that were intended to cause thunder damage?

Also Extraction on page 82, under tier 2 hydromancer powers, causes psychic damage. Which doesn’t appear to be a damage type on the hydromancer tree. Is the psychic damage in this instance a typo?

These are good points. As we were building the class, while there were powers that we labeled as thunder, the end result ended up not making sense to inflict the thunder damage type. Ultimately, our priority was to the theme of the class and not specific damage values. But I understand the frustration in its presentation.
As for Extraction, this came from a debate about what damage Mera in Justice League is inflicting when she extracts blood out of Steppenwolf. It didn't feel like poison, and it certainly isn't bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing...necrotic was reserved for the geospoiler. Finally, we decided psychic was the closest damage type. In retrospect, maybe another poison ability was better, but at the time, we felt psychic fit better with extraction.

Thanks for the response.

With the lack of thunder powers for the geospoiler, will “recharge thunder”, “+3 thunder”, “endure thunder”, “cool thunder” & “damage die + thunder” be modified or removed from the geospoiler tree?

Also, what is “cool thunder”? 5 steps into the middle column of the geospoiler tree. It doesn’t appear to have description in the geospoiler tree steps.

Oh, there are still powers with the thunder keyword, and those powers are affected by abilities that modify them. The fact they don't all specifically inflict thunder damage came out through what each power does. Plus there are abilities in the GeoSpoiler tree that do inflict thunder damage. But I understand the confusion. We could have made stone fist inflict thunder damage, but it didn't make sense as it was just a giant fist. The quake ability is based on the spell and that doesn't inflict thunder damage. Seismic wave works the same way. So it came out of the desire of creating effects where you are employing a thunder element to create non-thunder-damage attacks. I mean when you technically look at it, thunder is related to mostly air bursts, but the tempest already had force and lightning. This is why sonic weapons inflict thunder damage. However, we associated thunder with seismic-based abilities. I suppose we could modify ground spring and stone fist to inflict thunder damage, but none of the playtesters...See more

Found a bunch more inconsistencies between the trees and their descriptions. Thanks for pointing the first ones out, I will get them fixed.

Regarding extraction; that design logic makes sense but I think I will alter for my home games. The equivalent spell effect in Xanthar’s; Abi Dalzim’s horrid wilting, extracts moisture and does necrotic damage.

Thanks for the response. I somehow missed the keywords and my understanding was just based off the tree & power descriptions. That actually adds much more clarity. Thank you.

Don't be too hasty. I think you have some solid points, and a rectified Conestoga is coming down the pipe soon with fixed images and a revised Geomancer.

As is my company's common policy, we post the PDF first, and while we verify certification, we iron out any mechanical issues that may pop up. When the POD goes live, we send out a coupon to all prior PDF customers so they can order the POD at a greatly reduced price.

The description here seems a bit - off. Lots of broken images and random characters.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
