The Intermountain Matrix Vol II No 09

Suggested Price $0.99

In 1990, on the University of Utah campus, a new club took rise:  The Intermountain Of Gaming & Roleplaying Enthusiasts.  TIM OGRE was born!

Developed from an idea Michael S. Webster had while stationed in Germany trying to find fellow gamers on base.  To which, develop a database to match games with gamers.  People would register their contact information, what games they play and/or GM, and the database would generate a list of potential gamers.

Bringing this idea to the University of Utah as a student, he teamed up with life-long friend, Mark F. Anderson to develop this club and to produce a newsletter:  The Intermountain Matrix.  Getting submissions from the Salt Lake Valley gaming community as well as advertisements for local businesses and organizations to pay for printing, the newsletter was offered for free around the Salt Lake Valley.

The original newsletter ran from May 1990 through May 1994 with a total of nine issues being produced through primitive standards compared to current technology.  Using a Commodore PC10 8088 computer, a dot-matrix printer, tape, error correction fluid, and a photocopier, the newsletter reached hundreds of gamers.

Now, these issues are being presented for the first time globally.  Scans taken from original copies (the original pages of issues 02 on up are lost), cleaned up a bit, and then uploaded as PDF files are now offered as "Pay-What-You-Want"!

These are also the first offerings of WebStar Enterprises; a veteran owned and operated business publishing gaming and gaming-related materials for YOUR table.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
