Magic Staff Description Generator

Magic staffs are the mark and focus of wizards, warlocks, witches, sorcerers, clerics and druids from across the world and across fantasy stories everywhere. And yet, each staff has its own specific appearance, story and origin that define it's powers and place in the world.

This tool is system agnostic and can be applied to any fantasy game (such as any version of Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, Runequest, Palladium, Call of Cthulhu, etc.) or superhero game where mystic relics and tools exist. This set of nine tables allows the Game Master to define what the staff is made from, what component in the core of the staff energizes it, what pieces bind and contain the staff for strength, and what symbols, runes, physical features, magic effects, and hints regarding the origin of the staff. Each table has its own paragraph of instructions to help you understand and interpret what the results mean and hints about the staff’s power.

NOTE: This description generator can be applied to any kind of magic staff or a prop or mundane weapon. The exact powers or features of the staff should be defined by the Game Master. Look for more fantasy oriented products from D10 Dimensions in the coming weeks.

EXAMPLE (Generated by random dice rolls from this tool and imagination in paragraph format):

The staff named Rendershod is 67 inches (170 cm) long shaft of hickory wood with a hidden core of jade. The entire staff is bound and reinforced by three gold rings with elven runes etched into the metal, while 17 alchemical symbols are set into the hickory at random. The mystically hardened wood has a dull, scarred appearance that hints at it's resistance to acidic and caustic agents and powers. Rendershod can be left to stand upright without any visible means of support, and is somewhat famous as the principle staff of the wizard Arcanos when he taught at the Gilroy School of Wizardry in the old elvish land of Klavistok.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
