Having just arrived in the village of Portum, you are inundated with the talk of war and the call for heroes.
Chaotic forces from the Under-Realm have taken over an ancient shrine, with plans to invade this land,
The common folk are scared, and the Lady who rules here is looking for adventures to save the day!
Will you answer the Lady’s call, cleanse the shrine and send these evil doers back to their dark dens?

Greetings adventurers and Game Masters! 

I am very pleased to announce the release of the fourteenth adventure in my Old School Series, FORTUNA’S FAVOUR. This scenario involves a dungeon crawl into the abandoned shrine of an ancient goddess of luck and chance, known to locals as the Fane of Fortuna. The action takes place in the far eastern section of the mighty empire known as The Imperium, in the tiny province of Tranquillam, which is governed by the legendary halfling adventurer Lady Lorry Trailchaser, whose throne rests in her fort at Portum. Tranquillam is the smallest province in the empire but, like Lorry herself, what it lacks in size it makes up for in quality. It has some of the most fertile farms and richest grassland in the empire, producing wines and horses prized throughout the realms. It is also the home to a renowned spy academy, the Schola Umbra, rumoured to be a front for a spy network and thieves' guild. 

Synopsis:  Lorry Trailchaser’s province is prosperous; she is known far and wide as a shrewd, but fair ruler; and her subjects are happy. Well at least they were happy until recent shocking events along the province’s norther border. Farmers discovered a battered and bloodied militia unit hung from trees by their ankles. All of them were dead save for one lucky soul. This sole survivor's wounds were bound by a local druid, but he could not heal her mind. There was madness in the young woman’s eyes as she repeatedly stated, “They are coming from below; they are coming for us!”

After being transported to the military hospital in Portum, the woman’s recovery was overseen by the province’s finest healers. Once she healthy enough to tell her story, she spun a harrowing tale of capture, torture and a foothold situation involving a group of Chaotic invaders from the Under-Realm! After researching the clues the soldier provided, the authorities determined the location of the invader’s camp: a cave shrine surrounded by roses and known to locals as the Fane of Fortuna, a mere 7 miles distant from the capital! The common folk are frightened, the Lady wants action, and thus a call goes out for adventurers to aid them in their time of need.

This is where your players come in: will they answer the call for heroes?

This adventure was written to be generic and compatible with most fantasy role-playing games (FRPG), and should be useable with OSRIC, 5E and most FRPG ruleset. Minimal statistics are included in the text of the adventure, but complete OSR statistics are included in the appendices for the six new foes presented in this adventure, including the ancient aquatic humanoid race known as the Garlië. This scenario also features two new magical items, including the very useful skeleton key, as well as standard old world fare! Lastly, this module will be of interest to my long time readers as it continues my world building by finally revealing the last of the four primary Under-Realm races, the Garlië!
