Manhunt is an adventure module for MegaTraveller which takes your players on a quest for the legendary Victory Belt, an asteroid belt consisting entirely of the rare and expensive element onnesium-118. Only the basic three-volume MegaTraveller rules set is required to play Manhunt, and the referee should familiarize herself with both those rules and this module before play begins. Other MegaTraveller supplements and sourcebooks are available that will, though not essential, provide a wealth of further background information. Particularly useful is the Rebellion Sourcebook from GDW. Both of these provide the rich detail that made Traveller famous.

Manhunt was projected for publication in 1990, but its publisher DGP closed their doors before Manhunt saw print. Now, the original manuscript, recovered from a 3.5 inch floppy, has been rehabilitated and polished for publication.

I finally had other things to add to a POD order so that I could save on shipping and have discovered that the discount from 6/19/2022 has expired. Can I still get the discount?

It looks like this adventure is part of a trilogy and, as I understand it, the other two parts were never written.
Does the adventure have a satisfactory conclusion or are there lots of loose ends that were going to be tied off in the later installments?

The book contains two scenarios (Cometfall and the Fharnas File) that are part of the larger trilogy (and my intention for the other two books is that they should contain two scenarios each). There are some loose ends at the end of Vol.1 - that's inherent in the structure - but they could be integrated into a larger campaign such that you could fit other things between the two scenarios, and between the Fharnas File and the next book (the book contains some capsule scenarios to that end).

As of 2-5-2022 the Contents given on this webpage is not same as book - Appendix C is actually 'Traveller Conversions' and not Character Conversions and has Mongoose 2 and Traveller 5 stats for ships, vehicles and robots but not for the characters.

Does this convert easily to Mongoose Traveller 2E? I'm not at all savvy with the version compatibility. But this sounds great!

Appendix C contains conversions of all of the ships, vehicles and robots in the book.

The MegaTraveller task system is roughly compatible with that in Mongoose 2e; shouldn’t present a problem for most referees.

I didn’t convert the characters - conversion is mainly a question of picking an appropriate alternative skill in the cases where MgT2e differs from MT.

Very compatible - the starships included have Mongoose 2 conversions in an appendix and character generation is so similar that there are just a handful of skills that might need to be renamed and you can do that on the fly.

One issue is that it is set in 1119 in Megatraveller's Rebellion Era when the Third Imperium has collapsed into civil war - but the civil war itself is not a major theme in this scenario so you can easily change the date to pre-Rebellion.

"the civil war itself is not a major theme in this scenario so you can easily change the date to pre-Rebellion"

There are two aspects which I think might need a little accommodation.

The first is the relationship between the IISS Lapsan-Fharnas base and the undersea archive; the former is now controlled by Makhidkarun (because Fharnas is now within the Ziru Sirkaa), while the crew of the latter consider themselves to still be taking orders from Reference. It's not a huge issue, but it affects the likely resolution of The Fharnas File.

The second are some of the interstitial adventures, particularly Devil Ship and The Dog House; these rely on the Vargr incursions into Corridor post-1117.

By Yaskoydray's invisible beard! I never would have believed this would ever see the light of day, having been 30+ years in the limbo. Thank you a million times! (Does that make it a mega-thank you, then? Ouch!)

Now imagine what it was like to find out eighteen months ago that the manuscript for Manhunt still existed, and not being able to tell people about it while I was working on it!

I remember picking up a flyer advertising this module at the DGP booth at GenCon 1990 and was very disappointed that it was never released, so it’s very cool to see it finally come out all these decades later. Would be even cooler with a print option so I could put it on the shelf alongside my other DGP books. [Edit: and now I see that a print version is being released - sweet!]

First off a big thank you.
Next - any chance of a print on demand version?
And finally - why has this never been mentioned on CotI?

Yes, POD should be available at the end of May; we wanted to make sure that the PDF was available for 1st May.

And speaking of May Day, Marc should be making an announcement on CotI later today…

Can’t say I can find anything looking like an announcement over at COTI … I guess it is more of the emty promises and kicking the dead horse as usual from that quarter.

I received the proofs from Marc yesterday morning and sent back the necessary corrections two hours later. I’m in the UK, so it took a few days for the proofs to reach me after Marc received them from DTRPG. Have a little patience!

This book is very much a one-off. DGP cancelled it (and the rest of the Onnesium Quest) in 1991, and the copyright on the Manhunt manuscript reverted to the author (Phil Athans). When DGP's assets and IP were sold to the current rights holder in 1995, Manhunt wasn't part of the deal - this is why we've been able to publish it.

Unfortunately, DGP's books remain in a state of limbo because the current rights holder doesn't seem to be interested in republishing them. I think that we're unlikely to see them resurrected (but obviously, never say never).

Regarding the other two books in the Onnesium Quest trilogy (Antares Down and Beyond the Seventh Moon), there are a few scattered notes, but no manuscripts; they need to be written from scratch.

So I have to ask -- is the plan to finish the rest of the Onnesium Quest? Is Philip Athans planning on writing the rest?

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
