Dicey Tales allows you to create characters from every genre of pulp, from the ancient world to the two-fisted era of 1930s adventure.

Dicey Tales offers players and gamemasters a background of the pulps and how they crossed over into radio, film, and television.

We also provide hints and suggestions for running a game and playing a character in a genre where good fights evil and a team of talented adventurers can stand up against any peril with just grit, teamwork, and fighting spirit.

Using the fast-paced and highly fluid Barbarians of Lemuria rules engine, Dicey Tales will bring you hours of fun and the ability to experience pulp-style adventure in just about any cultural and historical setting using the same great rules system and a handful of six-sided dice.

As a special addition to the Dicey Tales ruleset, we are proud to present a special updated version of The Perils of Bonaga Bay, originally published in Dicey Tales #1. This expanded offering includes several new encounters, characters, and full-color art.

The Perils of Bonaga Bay is a South Seas, treasure-hunting adventure, featuring exotic ports of call, pirates, native tribes, and undersea peril. This adventure is the perfect introduction to classic pulp adventure and to Dicey Tales itself.

Are you looking to expand Dicey Tales into 1930s/1940s era gangster and noir and even Wild West settings? Or even sci-fi Raygun adventure, ala Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon? I think this game is the perfect pulp set of rules to tackle those genres as well!

Hello Jonathan, we are definitely looking to expand Dicey Tales on several Pulp fronts through our upcoming Dicey Tales Adventures line. Inner City Adventure- The original Dicey Tales campaign was set in 1930s-era San Francisco. We are currently beginning playtesting of both horror and classic Old West adventure. Pulp Raygun adventuring is currently under development as well. I hope that information is of help.

Hey was wondering if the rule support Asian based (mainly the wuxia or chanbara martial arts) characters and will there be adventures made to take place in the the orient? Looking for playing samurai in the wild west, a shaolin monk travelling the world. Or exploring the land for Shangri la.

Hello Jason, Yes there will. In Legends of Steel, we had plans to incorporate the continent of Sulan into an Asian feel campaign. The campaign included Wuxia-style forms. With Dicey Tales, we will be re-releasing Legends of Steel updated and revised. We are also examining releasing the forms we developed in an Asian-themed pulp adventure. Through our upcoming Dicey Tales Adventures line.

Is legends of steel something separate from the dicey core book? I’m confused and it probably isn’t, sorry. I just want to get books that I can use to do pulpish adventures all over. So please direct me in the right direction. I just got the core book!? So I’m starting

Legends of Steel (LoS) was a campaign world for the Barbarians of Lemuria (BoL) legendary edition. LoS was my attempt to create a Sword and Sorcery world that was similar to the Comic Book style Sword & Sorcery being offered in the 70s (Conan the Barbarian, Dagar, Claw, Skull the Slayer, etc.).

Basically, I wrote LoS for the 2nd edition of BoL Soon after, Simon came out with the Mythic edition of BoL. Now that Dicey Tales (DT) is out and chugging forward, I intend to update LoS and release it as a supplement for Dicey Tales which will help show that DT covers Sword & Sorcery pulp as well.

Fantastic Pulp RPG, will there be more adventure publications?

Really liked the Perils of Bonaga Bay, would love to see some more set in all sorts of locales around the world, preferably during the mid/late 1930s.

Maybe a collection of smaller adventures that could possibly even be strung together as a campaign?

Thank you so much, Dirk!
We are currently working on the first installment of Dicey Tales Adventures which will definitely include adventures in the 1930s as well as other periods, all in the various genres of Pulp. In fact, if you enjoyed Perils of Bonaga Bay the first installment of Dicey Tales Adventures will feature a Gazetter of the port town of Gamboa as well as another adventure in the area.

This is from a post on the Dicey Tales Productions FB page:
"We are currently working on the first offering of Dicey Tales Adventures.
We plan to have at least two or more adventures in every issue along with rules addendums, NPC write-ups, and a Gazetteer featuring a particular area of pulp.
First up for the Gazetteer section, is the smuggler's town of Gamboa Island which was introduced in the Bonaga Bay adventure from the Dicey Tales core book. "

I will take full responsibility for that decision. I wanted the text to be as clear as possible.

OK, so this is one of the best, if not the best, pumpy game out there!

Jeff took the Barbarians of Lemuria engine and adapted it to play classic Pump Games. Indiana Jones, Doc Savage, Call of Cthulhu, Gangbusters, Deadlands Noir. All of these can be played with Dicey Tales.

The book is well laid out and easy to follow. And the flow of character creation to rules to GMing is simple and fun!

I strongly recommend this for fans of any Pulpy Adventure.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
