Thematic Toolkit: Cultist (A5E)

Thematic Toolkits are small, self-contained products allowing you to make characters of a specific multiclass combination. Each includes two new subclasses and a new synergy feat chain. All of the components can be used together or independently of one another.

In this release, we've got some fun options for those who looked excitedly at the new Cultist background in the Level Up core rules with everything you need to make a cleric/warlock.

The new cleric archetype is the Execrator, a master of divine wrath who metes out punishment with curses and debuffs, making an example out of their foes.

Warlocks gain access to the new Vestigialist archetype which channels the essence of fallen divinity, becoming an expert in forbidden knowledge, making their minds dangerous to contact, and eventually even taking on the aspects of their fallen patrons.

And the new Heterodox Devotee synergy feat chain allows you to combine these two archetypes or any other combination of cleric and warlock into a unified new whole.

Written by Peter N Martin, one of the original Level Up Designers and the author of Multiclass Feats!

are these new classes(subclasses) or just a multi-class buildpath?

They're new subclasses: one for clerics and one for warlocks. There's also a feat tree focused around cleric/warlock multi-classed characters.

I know some folks are willing to pay for buildpaths, but I don't think I could bring myself to charge for them, and I enjoy designing new stuff more in any case. This series will always have new material.

At some point I might make some content specifically designed to work with the synergy feat trees in the Adventurer's Guide, but even in that case, I'd clearly indicate it in the product description.

Another really cool supplement for A5E, bringing two really unique archetypes together with a -really- cool synergy feat chain!

The cleric archetype Execrator is brings a really different cleric to the table, sorta a "harbinger of doom" to their higher power's enemies, and the mechanics involving cursing and weakening them really fulfill that flavor!

Personally, I -love- the flavor of the warlock archetype Vestigialist, it actually fits with a warlock character of mine I'm in, and it is everything I'd want to play.

The synergy feat chain is honestly really clever and a way of meshing two classes that normally don't go together into something really interesting. Especially with A5E allowing warlocks to shift their spellcasting ability, it's really clever to allow the player to change their previous ability to wisdom when taking the feat, allowing for flexibility for story to lead into the multiclass rather than being forced to plan ahead.

Got to check out the thematic toolkits recently & I gotta say they're very flavorful combinations that really bring out the concept very well. Highly recommend for anyone who's looking to add a bit more flavor to their concept, or in the case of the cultist toolkit, a bit of elder horror madness!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
