County Road Z is a tabletop skirmish game of rural survival and community building in the zombie apocalypse. For solo and cooperative play, with enemies that respond to every move the player makes. Keep your survivors happy and fed, but make too much noise and the horde will come to your door. Find the balance between what's good for survival and what's best for the growth of your community. Live long enough, and you may be able to cancel the apocalypse.

Salvage and explore on the tabletop, then move to the base-building and character advancement portion of the game. Designed specifically to be equal parts on-the-table tactical play and off-the-table strategy. Get your dice and your calculator ready, there's some decisions to make.

Which one is the latest version? The one that says "1.26" in the file name says that it is version "1.25" in page 2. How about the one that says "Final" in the file name? That one does not have a version number in page 2 :(.

The version titled 1.26 is the most recent, though it will say 1.25 on page 2. Essentially, the print version is 1.25, and the pdf is 1.26, and the only difference is covered in the FAQ. It's a small difference, otherwise you can play from the physical book without a problem.

what extras do i need to play this? the only playthrough i can find on youtube has a big fancy board/map thing. will just some tokens + dice be enough?

You can absolutely play with just some tokens and dice! Some paper or string to represent walls and whatnot may also be convenient. There's also a dice-only combat variant in the works for folks who want to focus on the basebuilding and resource management. Look for us on various social media and you'll be able to keep up with new freebies.

I wanted to commend you on your offer for the hard copy of the book! You are a scholar and a gentleman!

..Unfortunately, I have no use for physical books. I own an absolutely insane number of resources on DriverThruRPG, DMsGuild and the OpenGamingStore. It would be.. crippling.. to attempt to house even a small percent of them as physical books.

Now I WOULD purchase a pack of VTT content from you, with a selection of maps, top-down tokens and items like weapons and etc. I read where you recommended Zombicide for tabletop use. I checked it out, but didn't see any county road type boards there, only a city map board. At any rate, post-apoc VTT assets are so hard to come by anyway.. if you offered some, I'd grab them up in a heartbeat. I haven't even had a chance to review your system yet.. I'd buy the VTT assets regardless (assuming they were semi-realistic and not cartoony). :)

That is, unfortunately, not part of my skillset! I may start learning to build that kind of asset, especially now that Drivethru is partnering with roll20. I did my playtesting in the VERY early days on a zombicide board, but you're absolutely right that it isn't really thematically appropriate. Thanks for dropping in here, sorry about the late response!

It's just a rulebook. The game is strictly bring-your-own-miniatures. If you own a copy of zombicide, those components work great, then all you need is a d10.

Heyho,

quick question, maybe I'm dumb but how do multiple activations from Zombies work? Like for example: "Earl activates and moves, which activates Zombie 1. Then Earl shoots at Zombie 1, but misses. That means Zombie 1 activates again, right?" Zombie 1 would only not activate "again" if Earl moves twice for example right? Or am I getting something wrong here?

I am just starting to try this game out with my son. We were looking for something to graduate up to from Zombicide, that had a bit more robust campaign system, so thanks for this so far.

Followup to the Zombies activation question above, it seems to me that if a move (6) will activate every zombie within 6" immediately after the move, then it will be impossible to melee attack first on any zombie, as moving up to them will immediately trigger an attack on their part when the movement is completed. But moving 1" away from them will trigger them to move into range, which then can be followed up with an attack from the character...

Also, if you are, for example, 5" away from a zombie and move away from it one move action, it will (being the same speed) move 6" as well and still be 5" away from you. If a second move action is taken it will again move 6" and get to move a total of 12" that turn. Then at the end of the turn, it will activate again (since...See more

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
