Blurred Lines - Giallo Detective Solo RPG

Sounds like it needs a hardback + premium colour option.

I finally got a chance to play it.
I can't leave an official review because I'm now a publisher, but I'll leave this review here:

I found it to be mechanically much more involved than its influences.
The cards drawn generally have two separate prompts, which you are guided to by passing or failing action checks.
With the exception of face cards. These only have prompts if you fail. And each one is randomly rolled when a failure occurs.
You have three stats that can be tested. Of these three, you get +1 in one, -1 in one and no modifier in the third.
Each suit is tied to a specific attribute, with Hearts being your choice of stat (obviously the one you have a +1 in) for number cards or the stat you have no modifier in for its face cards.

While there's no graphic violence in the book, itself, the prompts can get pretty intense, especially when failing Spades or face card checks.
During the course of my game, the janitor of my character's apartment was...See more killed, then a friend, and then a cousin.
Two of these were found by my character, with one being pretty descriptive in the text.
It's also (true to The Wretched form) pretty fatalistic in that you will likely lose (as I did).

The timer from Wretched, and games like it, is replaced with two tracks: Clues and Killer.
Both tracks have five ticks.
Whichever reaches five marks first determines whether you win or lose the game.
There's also Favors, a third track which represents a player buff that allows you to avoid a face card.

Overall, I thought the game was pretty good and improved on the Wretched formula.
The content may be too disturbing for some, however.
I think that it would sell better if it was re-skinned with a more popular theme or genre, like zombies, but it emulates its chosen genre quite well.
Although, I do think I'd simply prefer a more glossed over PG (edited for TV) version.
Probably not as a replacement for this one. That wouldn't be fair to the genre it's emulating.
I think a milder version could still have a place alongside it.

I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I'll also note that I created a personal chart for randomly rolling public locations for the mapping, and I used game-icons.net to generate random icons to interpret for the foreground subjects in each of the photos.

The overall quality puts it at 4-stars for me.
It has enough extra features to interest me in playing more than once, unlike The Wretched.
The Wretched is very much a one-time play.
The variable stats and the action checks help give Blurred Lines more replayability.
But I can see that after a few times of playing, I'd need to take an extended break, as I'm sure most characters would end up dying.

I took off half a star for the potentially disturbing elements, as it was more the genre being emulated than being an outright shocksploitation.
I think it did help that I created a character and played him as 'a character' and not as myself. The disassociation helped buffer the intensity of those scenes.

However, some people do play the journal/prompt styled solo games more or less as themselves. For those people, I'd definitely suggest stepping outside the character.
Don't think 'I/me', think 'he' or 'she' when answering the prompts.

You have stats you can change to the type of character you're playing, and then all the prompts are randomly selected based on the card you draw and an action check.
