STAGED HEROISM

Staged Heroism is a comedy/action tabletop roleplaying game about legacies and failure, a rules-light love letter to Saturday morning cartoons of years past as well as contemporary super-hero cartoons that bend (and sometimes nuke) the tropes of the genre.

It’s a game filled with hilarious heists, super-heroics, and absurd plans for world domination gone delightfully awry.

In short, it's a love-letter to and inspired by The Venture Bros.

(Just to be clear, familiarity with The Venture Bros. is NOT necessary to play and enjoy this game. You don't even need to give a crap about the TV show. )

I've been enjoying the RPG, but got a little confused about one aspect of the Chapter 4 Hero & Villain "Class Actions": Both have "Power" listed, and I don't know if this means those character classes get another power or only able to use it per this "class action"... To add to the confusion, The Secret Agent and Sidekick "Class Actions" don't have "Power" included, but the Major NPC examples from Page 74 for Agents and Sidekicks do have Powers included with their write-ups.

So, what does the Hero and Villain Power Class action do?

Further response from the designers:

Thanks Bill! Somewhere in the design process something went awry, and three of the pregenerated characters (Ophelia, Titania, and Onomatopoeia) had the wrong qualities listed. The digital PDF has been fixed and folks who've ordered a print of Staged Heroism have an errata that corrects this, but they should replace the following qualities (Just Let Me Try This Again. I’m Ready For It This Time [Ophelia], Mine is to Perceive and Control the Delicate Arrangement of the Cosmos! [Titania], and As A Scientist, I See All...Kinds Of Things [Onomatopoeia]) with "I’m Tutored By A Box My Pop Made" and sources of magic wand, rocking out, or doomscrolling for their powers, respectively. If you notice anything else please let us know!

Thanks for that, and I will print out that Errata for those NPCs.

However, my question wasn't really answered, so I'll rephrase it:

For both Hero and Villain Classes, they have the Class Action "Power" which describes what degree of Failure/Partial Failure/Success happens when a Hero or Villain uses that power... The Major NPC examples for Secret Agent and Sidekick show that they have Powers, but not the Class Action "Power" like Heros and Villains...

Do Secret Agents and Sidekicks just do the basic ability check result (Page 7) when using any Powers they have, instead what Hero & Villains do?

Ahha I gotcha! The "The Whole Pirate Thing Is Behind Me Now" quality grants all the things that you normally get when you gain a class, including class actions. Blueberry ought to have the Flashback, Henches, and Power class actions, and every character with a power has the Power class action.

Okay, got it:

ANY character with a power has the Power class action (not exclusive to the Hero & Villain classes)

AND

The "The Whole Pirate Thing is Behind Me Now" Quality includes all the class actions for each additional Class the character is part of (which explains why you need the Showrunner's permission to have this).

OK, I now have a question about the "The Whole Pirate Thing Is Behind Me Now" quality on Page 41:

When a character has the "TWPTIBN" quality (after getting the Showrunner's permission and paying the 5 EXP for the 2nd Character Class), do they also get that class' Ability Score bonuses as well? (i.e like the Villain Class' "increase two of your ability scores by 1"))

The designers mentioned above that Blueberry, having both Villain and Sidekick classes, also had all of the class actions that go with those... But his ability scores only add up to the original 5 pts, plus 2 pts for apparently only one character class. Shouldn't he have 2 more ability score points due to his 2nd class?
