The Dogs of War have been loosed - the world is facing  nuclear and biological Armageddon between competing, ruthless, power blocs -- powers aiming at nothing less than total victory and the complete destruction of anyone who opposes them.

The struggle between these two Blocs has been going on for years, but has only recently become a Hot war -- the 3WW to the West, the Anti-Imperialist War in the Pact Nations and the New Jihad in the Emirate ... and it has become a nasty one.

Your campaign will be set against these events and this book provides a comprehensive system fThis book provides information about a wide variety of Consumer Goods ~175 items), Weapons almost 40 Pistols, 30 SMGs, 47 Rifles, 12 Shotguns, 31 MGs, 12 Grenade Launchers, 11 AT Rocket Launchers, 8 Mortars, 6 Autocannon, 6 Tank Guns, 10 Artillery Pieces 10 Melee Weapons, 7 Bows & Crossbows, 3 Grenades, Demolitions Gear, Aircraft Ordnance, Artillery, Smallarms, 40 mm Grenade and Rocket/Recoilles Rifle Rounds), Vehicles (3 Bicycles, 10 Light Vehicles, 7 Tactical Trucks, 10 Armoured/Scout Cars, 23 Wheeled APCs, 24 Tracked APCs, 24 Light 'Tanks', 39 MBTs, 3 Misc Tracked Vehicles, T10 types of 'Technical', 21 'Zombi' APC/IFV , 10 Zombi MBTs, 7 Watercraft, 5 Helicopters, 10 Fixed Wing Aircraft, 5 'AeroTechs') and Miscellaneous (Vehicle Kits & Packs, Weapon Kits & Packs, Specialist Ammunition) items which will come in handy for extended campaigns (or just as a matter of interest).

There are also extensive rules for the Weapons and Vehicles to better represent reality (Vehicles now have separate Turrets, for example and later war tank and artillery ammo ha spotential quality control issues, amongst other things)

Lulu Ready Print on Demand files are in the process of having Proof copies orderd -- and, when finalised, will be uploaded. These are the exact files you will need to upload to a Lulu account for the interior and cover. These are B&W Files only, but the non PoD files are not protected and can easily be turned into Lulu ready PoD colour files with the right software.

You may want to research the ROF a bit better. The MG42/MG-3 has an, real life, rate of fire, not what you gave it.

Overall I like it, though the price is a tad high

What, a couple of pages difference from 'Modern Encounters' ... which is the same price. And on a pr page cost it's cheaper than a lot of the other shorter supplements (so, for example, the 'Central Poland Sourcebook', 30 pages for $7.99 ... on that basis the Gear Book, 257 pages should be x8 and a bit or $64+ ... instead it's less than 40%! of that per page cost).

Or if you prefer, 'Gun Trucks, Technicals & Zombi Armour' which covers *that* subset of the Gear Book in the same way as The Fourth Horseman' and "Cardboard Characters' did for 'Modern Encounters' will be 64 pages and $7.99 as was 'Category IV: Wartime Mobilisation Divisions' (which was 62 pages).

I find some of the weapon conversions, in particular, a bit off.

An RPK is weight 2, per the Player's guide, you have a PPSH-41 SMG at Weight 3.6

I've held both, an RPK is way heavier.............

Weights in the Gear Book are given in kilos, from a mix of sources (including Jane's Infantry Weapons 2008-09). Weights in TW2000 are given in faux 'Encumbrance Units' which, per page 19 of the Core Rules, are 'roughly 3kg and can be carried in one hand).

So, according to the Core Rules, the RPK weights roughly 6 kilos ... whereas an unloaded one weights 4.8 (7.62 M43) or 4.7 (5.45) kilos. A significant difference, Everytnhing else in the Gear Book is explicitly in kg so I assumed people would pick up that weapons were as well ... the Encumbrance system, well, like so much of the 4th edition rules, I (personally ... YMMV) find it adds nothing to the game and actually detracts from it since, as with the RPK, they are significantly wrong in some many cases

RoF in the Core Rules is meant to determine how many Ammo Dice may be expended. It is NOT an actual measure of Rate of Fire in the normally accepted sense of 'how many bullets fired per minute' ... since this actually has a real, direct, game effect (unlike Encumbrance, or not in the same way) and cannot really be ignored (as Encumbrance can be) there is no choice but to use it as the baseline for the values in the Gear Book.

The problem is that there is, as far as I could work out, no 1:1 correlation between ACTUAL REAL WORLD Rof (bullets fired per minute) and RoF in the book ... so I had to guesstimate the RoF for Gear Book based on what seemed to be the nearest comparison between the 'real world' RoF and the faux RoF from the weapons given in the game ... so, yes, while I know the 'real world' RoF of the MG-34/42 was well to the north of 1200 rpm cyclic, in practical battlefield use it was much, MUCH, less.

The problem is, again, that many of the 'values' given in the Core Rules are...See more

I know Free League made things very vague, and I agree, I'd LOVE more detail from them, though I doubt we will ever get it.

Overall I like where you are going with it, though it expands away from what Free League has done, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Re: The PDF cost. It's basically 0.097 cents a page.
As mentioned, the 'Central Poland Sourcebook' is 0.266 cents a page.
Drivethru regulars have probably noticed that for the last 3-4 months, it seems 0.40-0.50 a page for independent releases is becoming the new norm (for example, $11 for 22 pages).
For the amount of detail in this book, 0.097 cents a page is a steal.

I've always tried to be reasonable with my pricing. I agree that some creators are ... well, they seem to me to have an overinflated idea of the value of their products, especially since there is no printing cost associated.

I have the previous version of this book. Have the armour values been revised (as a result of further research) or are they straight conversions from the old values to the T2000 system?

The TW2000 values are too coarse to do much with ... the original RtA values were more nuanced ... it's really like trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear conversion wise, still, with the added rules on different types of armour (obsolete, standard and modern) I think the AVs as they now stand make a fair go of working around the shortcomings of the core rules as they stand.

Reason I was asking is that I felt that many of the armour values were very different from many of my own sources (I come from an ultra-modern wargaming background).

What can I say? *I* didn't design TW:2000 4th Ed! From what I understand of the discussions on their Forums realism was never a concern for the designers and all attempts to inject a note of reality into the game systems were ... rejected ... or ignored ... I man, for ghu's sake, in the game Tanks DON'T HAVE TURRETS.

That said, short of rewriting the WHOLE game and redoing EVERY vehicle and weapon to conform to something closer to reality (as 1st, 2nd ...yes, even the late and entirely unlamented TW:2013 ... all attempted to do) I chose to try and fit things into the values as they exist.

I believe the division of Vehicle Armour into obsolete/standard/modern goes some way towards addressing the worst of the existing shortcomings.

If you want something closer to reality you might try Zozer Games' 'Modern War' and its supplements ... they use the Cepheus System (basically Mongoose Traveller 1e) and, as far as I can tell, their weapon and armour values seem good and are based...See more

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
