Aquilae Cartographer (Lifetime Overland Maps Subscription)

Aquilae Cartographer (Lifetime Overland Maps Subscription)

Quick Summary

A lifetime subscription to all of the thousands of world-class overland, nation, and continental maps, usable for fantasy tabletop RPG.

As of this writing, includes more than 3,600 maps comprising 3.7 GB of ultra-high-resolution content.

Infinium Game Studio has created the most intricately detailed and exhaustively documented fantasy campaign setting of all time: the realm of Aquilae.  The Western Realm is a roughly eurasian-sized continent, thoroughly mapped in every possible permutation and combination to fuel use in a huge variety of ways.

Thorough Approach, Endless Versatility of Use

Mapmaking is our pride and joy, and something we obsess over.  And we've been gaming for over 30 years.  We know that the best beautiful, elaborate map in the universe is next to useless if you're not able to show it to players.

That's why we've generated thousands--literally thousands, as in, over 3,600--of different maps in this Cartographer pack.

Included are all of the following:

  • 1,150 Settlements: Individual regional thumbnails for each and every Castle, Stronghold, City, and Ruin (more than 1,150 in total).
  • >600 Pure Geography: Maps displaying Altitude, Climate, Rainfall, and Temperature for each of 136 mapcells and 21 regional nation views.
  • GM Print (GMP): A fully-annotated D/GM view, showing ALL points of interest.  Included for each of 136 mapcells and 21 regional nation views.
  • GM Hexed (GMH): As GM Print, but overlaid with individually-indexed hexes.
  • No Cities (NC): A bare-bones, geography-only view of the continent, allowing you to place cities and points of interest as you desire.  Included for each of 136 mapcells and 21 regional nation views.
  • No Cities Hexed (NCH): As No Cities, but overlaid with hexes.
  • Player Print (PP): Player-redacted maps, including major settlement names.  Points of Interest and Ruins are redcated to keep mysteries protected until discovered.  Can be used as handouts in your game as-is.  What an adventuring party might have if they paid a particularly well-informed merchant.  Included for each of 136 mapcells and 21 regional nation views.
  • Player Hexed (PH): As Player Print, but overlaid with hexes.
  • Points of Interest: Over 400 points of interest that are sprinkled throughout the Western Realm: temples, ruins, military garrisons, and much, much more!
  • Heatmaps: Maps with color blossoms showing the location and density of certain phenomenon by region.  Includes over 240 heatmaps, showcasing the following for each nation: Castles, Cities, Factions, Magic, Military, POI, Ruins, Settlements, Strongholds, Villages, Villains, and Tribute/Divine locations.

The world of Aquilae is divided into "mapcells".  Think of the old paper maps where you have a big map with a grid: along one side are letters, and along the other side are numbers, so each square "cell" can be referenced: "C6", for example.

There are 136 mapcells in the Western Realm, each one roughly the width of the US state of Pennsylvania.

Regional Maps

The continent of the Western Realm consists of 21 nations.  Each one has numerous Regional Maps.

Below please find some examples of the thousands of maps included.  Onward!

If you have questions about the difference between this product and the Aquilae Western Realm Atlas, read on. I bought both and can directly compare them.

Yes, there is significant overlap. I would summarize the differences as:
1. subscription - as more maps are added (Eastern Realm, I hope), this product will receive them.
2. detail - this product includes an insane level of detail, which I describe below.

If you purchase the Western Realm Atlas and the Western Realm Gazetteer, you already have most of what this product includes. You're lacking the zoomed-in city and POI views and the map cells that are blank or have unlabeled cities (no towns), but maybe that's not a big deal to you. Naturally, you wouldn't receive future maps with those products, but I feel confident that when the new maps are done, IGS will release those at some point as a separate product.

- "Player" maps are redacted to only show settlements of town size and larger,...See more

Thanks so much Eric for your exhaustive comparison! :)

You're absolutely right that the "lifetime subscription" piece is the most valuable element here. There's the Eastern Realm (an entire continent pretty much the same size as the Western Realm), the Aquilae Campaign Setting, Oceanic Western and Eastern, Darkside Western and Eastern, Fissures, and much more. It'll take a WHILE to get through all of that, but it's all part of the lifetime thing. It'll be well over 10,000 maps all told.

Just search for the Kickstarter for Western Realm Gazetteer for a sense of things

Hi Jason, what's the main difference between this and Western Realm Atlas?

Hiya, sorry it took me so long to see this!

The Atlas is a book of maps; it includes digital versions of those maps that are in the book itself.

This Aquilae Cartographer is a mega-map pack, containing THOUSANDS of maps. It might be overkill. :)

Thanks! Besides the regional maps that are already in Atlas, what other maps can we expect to see in the Cartographer?

Also, is there an email I can reach you at if I have more questions? I tried emailing before but didn't get a response.

Have a few of your works and enjoy them!

When I see "lifetime subscription" that makes me think there is more upcoming content that I will be getting because I purchased this. Is that accurate?

Hi Randall--Yes, the two "map subscription" products are lifetime things.

Ebon Cartographer will continue to receive all battlemap / adventure encounter maps for adventure we publish, and Aquilae Cartographer will receive all overland / regional maps we publish related to Aquilae.

As of this writing, there's planned at MINIMUM an Eastern Realm Atlas and Gazetteer. You can Google "kickstarter western realm gazetteer" to find out more about the massive amount of content that's planned... but be warned, my ability to predict how long it will take me to finish things is legendarily poor, so it may take a while! :)

Thanks for your support!

This is great to hear! I hadn't heard of Ebon cartographer so will need to look that up as well.

Thanks for all the work you put into this.

From that page:

"File Last Updated: February 25, 2020
This title was added to our catalog on February 25, 2020."

So the "lifetime subscription" has never been updated in the 2+ years that it has existed?

Yep, that’s accurate—I haven’t published another new adventure with v battlemaps since then. I’ve been focusing on bestiaries and DM tools, and currently in campaign setting books.

I’m a one man shop so I’m not always able to produce as quickly as I might want to. :)

Hope that helps!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
