Welcome to Valmatia, the lost city-state of the halflings and the Valmatian Guild of Madriel! Though it was destroyed at the end of the Divine War by Vangal, it has influenced many magical traditions of present-day Ghelspad, including the chronomancers of Darakeene or the Calastian battle-mages.

Partly written as an in-world essay by Lokil loremaster Rimathi, Vigil Watch: Valmatia lets you play in different time periods, where titans walked the land and gods physically visited their worshippers. The history of Valmatia is one of oppression, tyranny, religious persecutions, racial prejudice, and cultural appropriation. After all, most scholars of modern-day Ghelspad believe the Valmatian to be humans, neglecting once more the role that halflings played in the history of Ghelspad. This supplement shines some light on this overlooked people, and hopefully shows the major influence it had on the Scarred Lands.

For the Game Master, you will find:

- A comprehensive history of the city-state of Valmatia, covering more than three millenias and different periods, as well as a description of its culture, inhabitants, and the different organizations that yielded power in the city accross the years.

- Adventure hooks and tools to play before the Divine War, including the magical effects caused by the very presence of gods or titans, as well as the description of dead demi-gods such as Miridium or Perdan.

- Ideas to integrate Valmatia's past into Ghelspad's present, such as time travel or imaginary prison, including the outline of an entire campaign to save refugees stranded in a dimensional space and besieged by an army of demons.

- Magical hazards, new diseases, and encounter tables related to the Haggard Hills or the Ethereal Plane.

- Around 20 monsters, including the CR 18 ironwrack dragon, the sulfur golem, or the swarm of spell-eaters.

- Over 20 new magic items, including Wicked's Edge, a powerful artifact which tragically shaped Valmatia's history before the Divine War.

For the player, you will find:

- A description of which peoples and classes were the most common in Valmatia before the Divine War, including one new Halfling heritage.

- Six new subclasses for the fighter (Cyan Watcher, Knight of the Coventacle), the ranger (Pyran Archer, Renewer), and the wizard (Chronomancer, Spellblade).

- Over 20 new spells, with a focus on battle magic and chronomancy.

- Six new social backgrounds related to the Valmatian guilds and organizations, as well as 3 new feats.

- While these players options were more easily accessible before the Divine War, they are still available to characters playing in adventures set in modern-day Ghelspad, 150 years after the end of the Divine War.

The Publisher Preview provides the full table of contents, as well as a 2-3 page excerpt from each chapter, including two new Fighter subclasses, three spells, one artifact, and four different golems.

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
