War has returned to the woodland!

The Marquise de Cat led her armies to victory over many of the clearings, but the Eyrie Dynasties rise again to oppose her. Meanwhile, the mice, rabbits, and foxes of the Woodland do not sit idly by—the Woodland Alliance, a homegrown rebellion, has emerged, promising to free the Woodland from any oppressors.

In the midst of this war, you and your friends—vagabonds all—travel between the clearings, taking on jobs no one else can or will do. You choose whom you serve, if anyone...but everyone knows you may tip the balance of the War.

Root: The Roleplaying Game is the officially-licensed tabletop RPG based on the award-winning Root: A Game of Woodland Might and Right board game by Leder Games. In Root: The RPG, you play vagabonds, individual outlaws whose adventures and alliances define the Woodland forever.

Root: The RPG contains:

  • Nine unique playbooks, each built to help you create a vagabond whose exploits will echo in the Woodland for generations to come.
  • Easy-to-follow rules for all manner of fantasy adventure, including roguish feats, reputation and travel mechanics, and more.
  • Innovative mechanics for managing equipment, weapons, and combat that make your choices matter both tactically and narratively.
  • Detailed instructions for running Root: The RPG—crafting combats, managing factions, and more—alongside a full clearing, Gelilah’s Grove.

Root: The RPG is a fantasy adventure tabletop roleplaying game for three to six players of woodland creatures fighting for money, justice, and freedom from powers far greater than them. Fame and glory await!

New faces haunt the Woodland’s paths!

As the War rages on, new factions take interest in the Woodland’s resources. The Riverfolk Company sends trade boats up and down the rivers; the Lizard Cult makes a new push for converts; the Grand Duchy digs tunnels to seize new territory; and the Corvid Conspiracy toils to claim ill-beggoten gains from the foolish. Who are these new factions? And what do they have in store for the Woodland?

Travelers & Outsiders is a supplement for Root: The Roleplaying Game—the officially-licensed tabletop RPG based on the award-winning Root: A Game of Woodland Might and Right board game by Leder Games—that expands the game to include the first four expansion factions!

Travelers & Outsiders contains:

  • Ten new playbooks, expanding the types of vagabonds you can play to include pirates, raiders, scholars, heretics, raconteurs, and more.

  • Four new expansion factions—The Riverfolk Company, Lizard Cult, Grand Duchy, and Corvid Conspiracy—for you to add to any campaign.

  • Dozens of expanded moves and tags, including weapons skills, roguish feats, natures, drives, connections, equipment tags, and pre-made gear.

  • Robust faction turn mechanics that bring the setting to life as factions seize holdings, build structures, and plot mischief across the Woodland.

  • Two new clearings—Heartwood and Sundew Bend—that focus on adventures involving the new expansion factions and their conflicts.

Root: The RPG Clearing Booklet

Regular price: $9.99
Bundle price: $8.99
Format: PDF

The clearings of the Woodland need vagabonds!

As a rule, most denizens don’t trust vagabonds—outlaws who wander the Woodland without a home—but there are times when the problems a clearing faces can’t be addressed by anyone...except those vagabonds willing to take the job.

This Clearing Booklet contains the following clearings:

  • Hookfoot Bog has always been a swampy marsh of hard mice, one in which many denizens have lived their whole lives. How will they deal with the change that the conquering Marquisate brings to the clearing?
  • The folk of Sixtoe Stand see themselves as inheritors of legend, but their recent battles mean they must throw themselves in with one of the factions at war in the Woodland. But which faction will they turn to?
  • Limmery Post—an outpost at the edge of the Woodland—remains a well-fortified clearing, perfect for a new Woodland Alliance base. Can the Alliance’s leaders convince the citizens of the Post to join the cause?
  • Coolclaw Mine is one of th eWoodland’s most lucrative mines; th eMarquise herself sent the trusted Lord Scowl to secure the clearing right away...but now food has grown scarce. How will he address the brewing insurrection?

Each clearing contains interesting conflicts, important residents (with stats), unique locations, and special rules. You can use these clearings as the setting for a one-shot or as part of a longer campaign in the broader Woodland.

The Clearing Booklet is an officially-licensed supplement for Root: The RPG, a fantasy adventure tabletop roleplaying game for three to six players, based on the award-winning Root: A Game of Woodland Might and Right board game by Leder Games.

I hoped to get an answer to my question on the Rule Books own page, but I think I'll try this page as well;

What are the differences between the complete rulebook and the combined quickstarts?

Also: A preview would be greatly appreciated.

The Quickstarts function as a preview. The complete rulebook has updated mechanics that are much more in-depth, along with more setting information, and other additional content. The corebook is 258 pages of content, as opposed to the Quickstart's 38 pages.

Oops ignore me, I now see it's a bundle of PDFs! Not just 1 PDF for $50.

It's a bundle. The individual PDFs are quite reasonably priced.

These Pdfs are twice the price of Pdfs for other games that have similar page counts. That, in my opinion, is not reasonable.

Really? Because looking at a number of similarly sized books also on the bestselling titles list with the same level of professional composition (art, layout, etc.) this looks like a pretty standard price.

Standard yes, and still expensive. If the books were digital only, I would understand. But, I think it's an excessive price to ask for a pdf that need only be produced once, then copied as many times as desired for free, while selling physical copies aswell.
If one finds that acceptable, I understand. Digital is accesible to far more potential fans, i simply think these prices are expensive for the medium.

Yikes, hope you dont buy movie tickets or blu rays since films only need to be made once then copied too.

I am aware that many things are copied and sold in various mediums and varieties.
I think the price of the pdf copies are expensive compared to the price of the physical copies/ books.

I disagree. This whole idea that the actual work (art, writing, licensing, editing, etc) is not important and only the cost of paper should matter is pernicious, imho. Don't buy games from actual professional companies whose employees want to eat if you want cheap games.

epublishing is wonderful in that it lets lots of folks sell products they produced basically as a hobby. But they mostly don't value their work appropriately and underprice it. You see the same thing with Amazon self published ebooks being a lot cheaper than the digital version of professionally published books in most cases.

Physical books and pdfs shouldn't generally cost the same, but the idea that the paper is the the bulk of the value is not one I agree with.

Of course the " actual work" is where the value comes from. I agree.
But I think one is getting better value by going for a physical copy instead of digital. Both support the employees, but to me, the books are the better investment. Hence why I say the pdfs are expensive.

Sure, that's a reasonable point of view. I don't think its about the price point of the pdfs as much as it is a preference about physical vs digital. I, personally, don't have any use for physical books whether they are the same price as the pdf or vastly more expensive.

But that's just me and the way I like to do things. And the space left on my bookshelf :D

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
