The curse of the Black Wind has receded from the vast lands of the dead Sorcerer-Witch and within lies untold fortune. Adventuring companies have taken up the challenge and rush westward to plunder the lands abandoned over a century ago. Untold riches await but the land is filled with unspeakable creatures twisted by the Black Wind.

Fire&Steel, Adventures In The Land Of The Dead Sorcerer-Witch, is a tabletop roleplaying game that combines old school renaissance elements with newer roleplaying concepts. Here are some of the features you will find within:

Thank you very much. We are still playing in the same campaign when we started our playtest. Our highest-level character is a 7th level Tribesmen Brawler. The last two sessions were the first ones where no one died, PC or retainers. We are definitely enjoying the rules light RPG. Also, even though character special abilities are minimal, it is the magical items they find that gives characters additional uniqueness and power.

Thank you for your comment. We are currently working on the first supplemental rules expansion which will feature more magic-user spells, forbidden rituals for sorcerers, dark gifts for shadowmancers, stats for the rest of the monsters in the encounter table, and expanded survival rules.

o First off, Beer and Cheese is the optimal Calorie combo, as validated by the Barbarian Bros. in the initial playtest at The Sanctuary in Jacksonville's Murry Hill district location.
o Second, a fast character with a scimitar can add to the party's damage but is by no means a front-liner unless she's willing to take serious damage.
o Kynkrea won faint praise from the Barbarian Bros. for just those tactics.

I have been waiting decades for this setting to be published; I have yet to see how much has changed, systemwise. Emi rocks as GM of this game.

I'm so happy to hear from one of the players from back in the Sanctuary days (a game store we owned). The second iteration of F&S had it's own system, which is now being reworked for our next game Torched Earth. We used food points as a way to keep track of a character’s caloric requirements. Beer and cheese had one of the best cost/value ratio.

I like a lot of what I'm seeing so far. A couple things bug me though- For one, it seems a little odd that Elfin are limited to Battleborn classes. Maybe that's a stylistic/setting choice though. And if it was me, I might have differentiated the Magic-users available spells by class a bit, but that's DEFINITELY a stylistic choice, so never mind me!

Overall, I'm liking the vibe you've got going here! Lots of evocative goodness.

(Just FYI, misspelled 'genocide' on page 3)

Thank you for the misspelling catch. Spell checker failed as well as my reading over it a hundred times.

The Elfin was a big discussion among my group as well. It is all about the setting, but the referee can easily lift the restriction. The Elfin are a dying species in Fire&Steel and the disadvantages reflect this. If you choose to roll for your racial culture, there is only 10% chance that the Elfin comes up. The reason they do not wield magic is because in their eyes the Black Wind has corrupted such practice and overtime, they stopped using it and now forgotten. There may be some fringe NPC Elfin still using magic but it's up to the referee.

There will be a magic supplement coming out soon that adds a separate spell table for Sorcerers and Shadowmancers that makes them stand out more.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
