Bleeding Kansas

Already the muster has begun. Even now, while I speak, portents hang on all the arches of the horizon, threatening to darken the broad land, which already yawns with the mutterings of civil war. -Senator Charles Sumner on Bleeding Kansas, 1856

A city long at peace is once again threatened with all out war. This chronicle brings a young coterie of Anarch neonates into the cutthroat political struggles of Lawrence, Kansas. After a century-long truce between the Anarchs and the Camarilla, one accidental diablerist threatens to throw Kansas back into the kind of brutal warfare it hasn't seen since the Civil War. As offers and threats from different factions pour in, the coterie must weigh their own ideals and ambitions against their loyalty to their sect, their belief in one another, and the plots of Kindred far older and more powerful than they are. There are many different ways for this story to end, but only a few preserve the peace that Kindred fought for long ago. The rest could hurl the city back into the deadly preview to the American Civil War, known in its time as Bleeding Kansas.

Bleeding Kansas Includes:

  • 13 Different Kindred profiles to bring your Chronicle to life.
  • An easily adaptable Chronicle for new or experienced Storytellers.
  • Opportunities for new coteries to establish themselves within the Anarch or Camarilla sects.
  • A profile on the city of Lawrence, Kansas in modern nights and a complex political landscape for your coterie to navigate.

Hi Helder, thanks for asking! This is a chronicle that's set in Modern Nights. The city where it is set, Lawrence, Kansas, was the site of a major Kindred war in the 1850s. The peace treaty that was struck after that war is what's at stake in this chronicle, so at this point the truce is over a century old.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
