Cursed!

Cursed! is a horror roleplaying game based on Ben Milton's Knave.

Cursed! is meant to help referees run any horror adventures they find as long as the protagonists are humans facing unnatural horrors.

What kind of horror? Cosmic horror? Vampire hunting? Alien invasion? You should be able to do it all: The rules are designed for a modern setting (late 19th century monster hunting to contemporary survival horror). It comes with dangerous and draining spells and  customisable monsters.

No classes and no levels: characters can get better but you'll see no hit points bloat here, even on the monsters side, keeping encounters tense and deadly for the unwary.

Horror made easy: short and easy guidelines, never be afraid to run a horror game again!

The game is licensed under a Creative Commons 4.0 International License: you are free to share and adapt this material for any purpose, including commercially, as long as you give attribution.

Inside the game's folder you'll find:

_a PDF of the game

_the character sheet

_an .odt text file for all your hacking needs

_the game's cover

_three "This game has been Cursed!" logo to add to your games or adventures if you wish to.

***LULU PRINT VERSION***

Thanks to Brexit and new customs rules everywhere, I also put a print version of the book on Lulu. It's a 33 pages zine with illustrations by Charles Ferguson-Avery. It's a digest sized, saddle-stitched book, printed on creamy paper (oooh, creamy....).

Here's the link to it: https://bit.ly/3HIqpwc

Hi Alexandre, my name is Javier and I'm an independent rpg publisher from Spain. I'm interested in translating this game and I know that I don't really need your permission, but I'd really want you to know and if we could talk I think it could be better. You can get me back in contacto@outremer.es

Thanks!

Any material on threat creation (monster generators, etc.)? How about tips on setting the mood, description, etc.?

There is material and advice to create your own monsters (it's not a random method using several tables though if that's what you meant, I don't like these).

I'd like to make a "companion"/second issue with more profession tables, pulp characters, telltale signs of a monsters presence, etc. The goal here was to have a low page count (as Knave) that let you run existing horror adventures from the get go

I'm glad you wish to see more material for the game :)

A companion would be a great addition, especially with pulp rules!

I do appreciate the principle of a 'low page count' rules. I will undoubtedly use these rules the next time I'll launch a Pulp Cthulhu campaign ;)

Inspiring reading and brilliant creation. Keep on your good work ;)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
