The archetypical creatures of the night, vampires — undead creatures that feed upon the life essence of the living — have figured prominently in human folklore for ages. Accounts of horrific, blood-drinking entities have been found among the ancient Mesopotamians, Hebrews, Greeks, and Romans and can be considered the forerunners of what is today considered a vampire. Variations of the theme can be found in cultural accounts all over the world, on every inhabited continent.

The modern version of the vampire can be traced back to two sources: Joseph Sheridan le Fanu’s novel Carmilla (1872), and of course the most famous vampire novel of all, Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897.) Since then, vampires have gradually become depicted less as bloodthirsty monsters and more as angst-driven tragic heroes, as typified by authors such as Anne Rice and Stephanie Meyer. Vampires are also popular fare onscreen, as seen in the TV shows Dark Shadows, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and The Vampire Diaries; and movies such as Nosferatu (1922), Dracula (1931), The Hunger (1983), and The Lost Boys (1987.)

This supplement for Cepheus Engine and the Original Science Fiction Roleplaying Game — Vampyr! —  now brings these horrid nightwalkers into the campaign. In mere minutes, Referees can have an antagonist worthy of those arrogant PCs, or Players can get in on the fun and become everyone’s worst nightmare, using rules and a generation system familiar to CE and OSFRPG players.

Vampyr! Just remember to be home before sunrise.

Hi, love the work here but on page 5 it says terms are variable roll 6d6 and then two inches down the page it says years in term 4d6. Which is official?

Good catch. Official is 6D6; I had changed the body text but not the table copy. I decided to give vampires a bit of a longer "life"span. The file will be corrected shortly.

That said, if the Referee decides 4D6 suits his or her game better, by all means, go for it. It's *your* game, after all. :)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
