Welcome to "100 Oddities for a Creepy Old House"! This sourcebook features 100 strange and unique things that characters in game sessions or stories might find while exploring a decrepit old home.  Oddities are the little touches that fill up the corners of lives. In our own mundane world, they might be limited to old, chewed pencils, unused key-fobs, or a half-finished decorative spoon collection awaiting the Grand Canyon and Mount Rushmore. In the worlds of our imagination, however, they can be so much more. What oddities might be found in the halls, on the walls, or occupying the shelves of a Creepy Old House? Let’s find out ... Oddities are intended to aid storyteller creativity, turning possibly bland areas or gaming episodes into something more. The goal of this publication and...

An extraterrestrial presence is real, and the agents of an interplanetary Consortium monitor us from sites hidden throughout the world. If there is a plan to avert environmental and social disaster, the aliens operating out of a subterranean base in Antarctica didn't get the memo. As much as some of them might want to help, the faceless bureaucracy they are part of prevents them from doing so. Rather, they go through the motions of their jobs, which mostly involve abducting people who won’t be missed, subjecting them to probes and other exams, and then eventually returning them to their homes throughout the heartland. GEBB follows the ongoing activities and periodic adventures of...

Ironclads: The Story of the Merrimac & the Monitor
Regular price: $1.99
Bundle price:
 $0.20
Format:
 PDF
When the American Civil War broke out in 1861, it sparked an arms race between the Union and the Confederacy, some of the most dramatic episodes of which involved the development of heavily armed and armored ironclad warships. Two of the first and most famous of such vessels were the USS Monitor and CSS Virginia, which engaged in a brutal hull-to-hull battle off the coast of Virginia in March 1862. This engagement, the Battle of Hampton Roads, became justly famous and formed the basis for much of what would follow in both sea and riverine warfare throughout the rest of the conflict. “Ironclads: The Story of the Merrimac & the Monitor” is a clear, evocative, and enlightening account of this famous naval duel by Adam Badeau, a noted American author, Union Army officer...

Bundle price:

Alchemists are magical practitioners who specialize in transforming one sort of thing into another. Some are very powerful but are also time-intensive and expensive. A couple may have significant impacts on setting designs as well.  This title contains six spells formatted so as to be compatible with any games using the sorts of basic fantasy role-playing game rules developed starting in the 1970s. They can be used as-is with games like Goblinoid Games’ Labyrinth Lord and Mutant Future and can be easily modified and expanded for ...

The Jester Dragon's Bag of Beans
Regular price: $2.99
Bundle price:
 $0.20
Format:
 PDF
One of the most iconic magic items associated with fantasy roleplaying games since their earliest days, and one that has seen incarnations in every edition of the game for which 5th Edition is the latest version, is the Bag of Beans. This item is, of course, inspired by the magic beans that appear in the classic fairy tale commonly known as Jack and the Beanstalk. Only one magical power is associated with the beans in that story, namely growing a massive vine that stretches up into a cloud kingdom inhabited by Giants, but the creators of the world’s greatest and oldest RPG cannily realized that any number of powers might be associated with legumes of this sort and proceeded accordingly when putting them into game terms. Many players think that the Bag of Beans

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #29: Mutualists I
Regular price: $0.99
Bundle price:
 $0.20
Format:
 PDF
To mangle a paraphrase from John Donne, no mutant is an island — unless your mutant is an island. And even then it probably does not live entirely alone. Whether you are part of a community or a party of adventurers, Ancient philosophers from the Liver Pool had it right: everyone gets by with a little help from their friends. When two or more different species help each other, the cooperation is called mutualism. The coexistence may be symbiotic, where one creature lives on (or in) the other, like human gut flora; or it may be less intimate, like bees simultaneously feeding from flowers and pollinating them. In some cases, one species domesticates the other, like humans and dogs (or vice versa), while others just adapt their behavior to one another, like some large mammals standi...

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
