THE TOR OF BONES

A Low-Level Fantasy Adventure for Player Levels 2 to 4
Intended for Use with Most Fantasy Roleplaying Games

The druidic Necropolis of Darragh was built inside a mountain peak known as The Tor of Bones.
It was destroyed by a terrible storm ages ago and abandoned, but its burial vaults remained.
These days it is overrun by wandering creatures and the angry dead the druids left behind.

Greetings adventurers and Game Masters!

I am happy to announce the release of the tenth adventure in my Old School SeriesTHE TOR OF BONES! This undead themed one-shot scenario is intended for 4 to 6 novice adventurers of levels 2 to 4. The adventure in this scenario takes place within the mountains near the hill dwarf village of Ben Gabha, in the Fortis province in the nation state of The Imperium. In this scenario your treasure-hunting players will be exploring a two-level dungeon delve full of the angry and resentful spirits of ancient druids, whose once noble souls have, sadly, become corrupted over the eons. Their rage having transformed them into vile undead, they care nothing for the life force they once cherished and now seek only to extinguish life. If your players can put these fiends to rest, their forgotten treasures are ripe for the taking!

Synopsis: Within a prominent peak the ancient druids founded a large underground complex, built above the gravesite of one of the greatest of their order, the Grandmaster Arten Darragh. This place became one of their most holy shrines, known to the druids as the Necropolis of Darragh. It was abandoned after becoming heavily flooded in terrible storms brought on by cataclysmic events long ago, but its burial vaults remain. These days it is overrun by wandering creatures who have found their way inside and the dead buried beneath it, some of whom have grown angry and discontented over the eons.

The common folk who later settled this area have mostly forgotten about the druids who once shepherded this land, and their stronghold. Their folk tales speak of an ancient place of power high in the mountains, but they have generally avoided the place out of superstition and fear. Over the years the locals came to call this place the Tor of Bones, and legends about it grew, claiming the tor is a place of evil and all those who enter risk both their lives and their eternal souls. Luckily, this means its treasure is likely to be undisturbed! For in addition to being a burial place for their honoured dead, the nature priests also used the complex as a vault for storing their knowledge and treasures.

Intrigued by the promise of untapped riches, your group has decided to test your mettle beneath the tor. Good luck!

This adventure was written to be generic and compatible with most fantasy role-playing games (FRPG), and should be useable with OSRIC, 5E and most FRPG ruleset. Minimal statistics are included in the text of the adventure, but complete OSR statistics are included in the appendices for both the standard foes and the new foe presented in this adventure. This scenario also features an exciting new magical item: bone studded leather armour, which offers improved protection for druids and other classes who shun metal armour! An Old School hex map of the adventure locale, within The Imperium, is also included to aid those GM's whose games take place in my published campaign world of Terrans. This module is of interest to my long time readers as it introduces the eastern boundary of my published campaign work, the dwarven-centric Imperium province of Fortis, for the very first time.

PLUS you get a free copy of my 2021 Starry Knight Press Catalog, which has information on all of my modules and supplements, as well as maps of the known portions of the sphere of Terrans where my campaigns take place.

I hope you and your players enjoy this scenario. Thank you for supporting Starry Knight Press

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
