Will you stand against the darkness?

When the Moon Hangs Low is a gothic action roleplaying game in which the players take on the roles of Hunters; people possessed of strange abilities who find themselves fated to oppose the terrible forces of darkness. Set in Harrowmire, a decaying city teetering on the edge of chaos, it is a game of intrigue, investigation, and combat.

Stories in When the Moon Hangs Low can cover a range of themes; from hunting vile beasts through collapsing sewers, to investigating gruesome murders, to intrigue and politics in the heart of the city.

Set in a low fantasy world on the cusp of the industrial revolution, When the Moon Hangs Low is inspired by games such as Bloodborne, Darkest Dungeon, and Kentaro Miura's manga series Berserk. It is a game in which tragic heroes pit themselves against monsterous forces with gunpowder, steel, strange powers, and grim resolve.

This book a complete, self-contained roleplaying game; everything you need to run or play the game is contained in the pdf. All you need beside this book is a handful of 6-sided dice, some friends and a dark imagination.

Should the pdf prove successful, a fully-illustrated printed version should be available in the near future.

this game is a nice surprise with simple and elegant mechanics. we see the evolution compared to the diesel version. the characters who sink into their dark side is very interesting, we would just like more diversity in this option.
I will follow this range carefully. Do you think of extending the system to other themes (Medfan / Sci-fi)?

Thank you for the kind words. I plan to add more Marks in time, ideally when the physical book is created. I would love to expand my settings; I do have plans for a sci-fi setting but I have a few projects to complete before I get to it.

When the Moon Hangs Low...In an Age of Steel. I purchased these two products together. In my head cannon, When the Moon Hangs Low takes place in a city ravaged by something horrible done at the tail end of the Great War. What hurdles might I face in bringing elements of When the Moon Hangs Low into an Age of Steel campaign and vice versa?

I have to say that When the Moon Hangs Low really conveys a sense similar to the video game Grim Dawn and the Castlevania series, to me.

The two systems are very compatible, with WTMHL being an update of the existing Age of Steel dice engine. The main differences being the technology levels of the two settings. Adding elements from WTMHL into Age of Steel should be easy enough, but doing the reverse might bring some balance issues as some Age of Steel weapons simulate WWI era cannons and machineguns and the Rigs have armour values far above the weapons in WTMHL may be able to penetrate. It's not something I've tested though!

The POD version is planned for 2022 at the earliest I am afraid. Ideally I will run a kickstarter to finance the artwork budget.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
