Evil Threatens the Borderlands!

Dunbury Castle is threatened by a rising tide of darkness. Bandits stalk the roads, pirates raid boats along the riverways, and the power-hungry Warden Balewick seeks to seize control of the duchy in his mad lust for power. But an even greater threat looms: endrori and other dark creatures are creeping out of the Deeplands, and the sightings grow more frequent every day.

Defenders of Dunbury Castle is a complete adventure setting for your Fifth Edition game. It’s the perfect base of operations for the adventuring party as they make forays into the monster-infested wilderness that lies beyond the castle’s walls. It includes everything a gamemaster needs to support a multi-adventure World of Aetaltis campaign.

Inside the Defenders of Dunbury Castle you’ll find:

  • An Introduction to Region: Learn the rich history of Dunbury Castle and its environs, the many and varied threats that await characters, and the state of the region at the start of the adventure.
  • Military Life: Discover the secrets to running an exciting campaign where the characters become stalwart soldiers that guard the northern borders of Agthor.
  • Dunbury Castle: A detailed room-by-room description of the castle, from the highest tower to the lowest dungeon and everything in between.
  • Scir of Dunbury: Complete descriptions of the many key locations in the land around the castle, packed with adventure seeds and encounters for use in your campaign
  • People of Dunbury: Meet the many and myriad residents of the castle, from the castle’s leader, the courageous Captain Brazewhite, to the devious Warden Balewick—plus complete Fifth Edition stats for each entry.

The Defenders of Dunbury Castle is the stand-alone companion book to The Heroes of Thornwall. Both books are designed for the World of Aetaltis campaign setting, an amazing new game world designed for use with the Fifth Edition of the world’s best-known roleplaying game. In Aetaltis, you’ll unlock a setting that rekindles the fire of classic heroic fantasy game worlds. It’s everything that made fantasy RPGs such an incredible phenomenon, reimagined and refreshed for today’s gamers.

Hey folks! Just purchased this and the Heroes of Thornwall book. Loving what I’m seeing so far. I think I may likely use this more than thornwall… One issue, we have a very detailed description of Dunbury Village but no map. Is one availed anywhere? Thanks and keep up the great work. More like this please!

PUBLISHER
Hi, Malcolm. I'm really glad you're enjoying the books! I'm sorry to report that there isn't a map of Dunbury Village available...not YET anyhow. We have a number of expansions in the works to build on the locations described in both books (Thornwall and Dunbury), and more details about the village including a map is part of that plan.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
