Cresting one final ridge you behold the vast plains stretching to the horizon before you. The wind sends waves across the range, making it look more like a pale, green ocean extending as far as the eye can see.
Barely visible in the impossibly blue sky is a half dozen dark shapes circling in the distance. Raising your spyglass to your eye you can just make out some sort of large birds of prey. As they glide and turn overhead, you perceive that they have small riders, with each brandishing barbed spear.
On the horizon to the west, dark clouds gather and the deep rumble of distant thunder can be heard rolling across the plains. Whoever said that the plains would be boring has certainly never been here.
