Fallout: The Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook PDF

ADD TO WISHLIST >

In 2077, the storm of nuclear war reduced most of the planet to cinders. From the ashes of nuclear devastation, a new civilization will struggle to arise. A civilization you will shape.

How will you re-shape the world? Will you join with a plucky band of survivors to fight off all-comers and carve out your own settlement? Will you team up with pre-existing factions like the Brotherhood of Steel or Super Mutants to enforce your own ideals on the Wasteland? Ghoul or robot, paladin or raider, it’s your choice - and the consequences are yours. Welcome to the Wasteland. Welcome to the world of Fallout.

This DIGITAL COPY of our 438-page rulebook contains rules and lore for roleplaying in the Fallout world, as well as concept art from the Fallout videogames. Utilizing Modiphius’ celebrated 2d20 cinematic role-playing system, the Fallout RPG will take players on an exciting journey into the post-apocalypse!

Create your own survivors, super mutants, ghouls, and even Mister Handy robots. Immerse yourselves in the iconic post-nuclear apocalyptic world of Fallout, while gamemasters guide their group through unique stories and encounters. The 2d20 edition of Fallout is as close to the bottlecap bartering, wasteland wandering, Brotherhood battling excitement as you can get.

  • Immerse yourself in this genre-defining setting with the official Fallout™ tabletop roleplaying game.
  • Create your group of original characters including vault dwellers, ghouls, super mutants, and even robots. Tell your own stories of survival in post-nuclear America using a host of non-playable characters and horrific mutated creatures.
  • Use iconic weapons, armor, chems, and items transferred straight from the video game. Scavenge the ruins of the old world and make your mark on the Wasteland.
  • Utilize the 2d20 System - a roleplaying rules set that supports both story-led adventures and detailed gameplay. Use Action Points to power your incredible wasteland wanderers, and augment their actions with your fantastic Perks.
  • Use an extensive catalogue of creatures and characters from the world of Fallout.
  • Gamemasters can kick things off with story hooks immersed in the Fallout universe, roll and build random encounters from tables inside the book, and even randomly generate locations and loot for their players.
  • 'With a Bang or a Whimper' 18 page introductory adventure
You will also automatically receive the Fallout: The Roleplaying Game Quickstart PDF.

So I got to read this at a friend's place....

You do realize Fallout was basically a tabletop rpg from the start? Like you can literally emulate the game mechanics of the first two games (Also 3 and NV to an extent) for your game session? Thats why you can print your character during character creation. There was even a rulebook I believe? Now this is a diluted adaptation of an overused ruleset for cheap licensed IPs. This could be so much more but instead of emulating the ACTUAL rpg mechanics of the classics and expanding on it with the new materials we get this???

Hello.
I am interested in buying this but is it a copy of the most up to date version of the rules. September 2022 included some updates and I just wanted to make sure if I purchased this, it would be the most up to date copy.
Thanks

Fallout Roleplaying Review – Advice for new GM’s

Players have the option of playing vault dwellers, survivors, ghouls, brotherhood of steel initiates, super mutants or robotic mr handy’s. From a GM’s perspective if you want to run a story based game rather than a series of fire fights you may need to limit players options.

Vault dwellers. With a pip boy players can get maps and holotapes which are great tools for running a story.

Survivors. Great for local knowledge, contacts, trading.

Ghouls. Ghouls are mostly reclusive so occasionally difficult to involve in the game.

Brotherhood. Chained to brotherhood command structure players and often not at liberty to just wander off being a good Samaritan and doing quests or whatnot. Other players may object to being forced to tag along on brotherhood missions. Best kept for brotherhood centrist games.

Super mutants. Just don’t. In almost every fallout setting super mutants are shot on...See more

Pretty sure the answer is no. It really seems like they've already moved on. When Microsoft purchased Zenimax, Modiphius probably lost access to everything they'd need (and possibly the license) and have just decided to shelve it, count the money, and move on.

So is it finally correct, or are there still errors in the book? I'm waiting to buy it, but don't want to have to search for corrections in an additional errata.

I understand that, right now, "Area" (ala FASERIP version of Marvel Superheroes) is used for combat as opposed to "one square/hex equals x distance". Will that change? I ask because that's a deal breaker for me.

I haven't seen anything indicating that they're interested in changing it. All of their 2d20 games use it (as bad as it is). It's a copout combat system and, while it BARELY worked in FASERIP, it simply doesn't, remotely, work for Fallout. They really should have put some effort into a more Fallout-esque combat system.

Me, I just cribbed range/movement rules from D&D 5e (with some GURPS tweaking moving to 1-yard hexes instead of 5-foot squares).

The Modiphius 2d20 system is the poster child for why I read as many games as I can: you'll find an, otherwise, great system hamstrung by an incredibly substandard rule that the developer believes is great because they probably don't play with it as written. Having experience with many other games lets you fix the game in your own way.

I couldn't recommend Aftermath more strongly if I wanted to, for this exact purpose. Aftermath had the most advanced combat system ever devised, and it was was devised SPECIFICALLY for a post-apoc setting. There is absolutely NOTHING I could recommend stronger.

..That said, people have adopted the two Savage Worlds systems to literally every scenario you can think of. ;)

It's one of the many, many errata they haven't entered yet. If you look on pg 335 under Caps. The terminology got changed but they didn't fix the description. Hopefully they'll actually get the errata'd version to us soon.

a lot of errata was fixed for this pdf at launch, there's errata being reported all the time as with most games, we're compiling it at the moment and the team are booking some design time to get another pdf update out to everyone, it's likely end of this month as we want to ensure we catch as much as possible

Yeah it would be great if they would actually give some sort of answer, either way.... I've held off purchasing the physical book for this reason.

Minor typos is one thing and i can live with that but my understanding is there is more then Minor typos in this.

There are plenty of typos, and even more errors that directly affect game play. It's a mess, and shouldn't have been released in this state.

I'm thinking of writing a review of the product itself, which so far I think is EXCELLENT. I am impressed with how well the Fallout setting feels tied to this different ruleset and I'm loving it so far. The rest of this post will not be complimentary, but I wanted to be clear that it does not reflect on the quality of the product itself:

Not only does the game call for special "damage dice" but the dice aren't available anywhere. You cannot even pre-order them from the Modiphius website, and the only way to get them there was in a special deal with the core book that's sold out.

Before anyone jumps in, I know that you can just use standard dice with a table located inside the book. But that adds an extra step that isn't necessary, and the "funny dice cash grab" is getting old. If you're going to push them all over your book, then they should be available when you release the book. Yes, even the digital version.

The dice are hard to get as they've not been released in the US thanks to massive sea freight delays, and equally bad delays in US logistics with huge delays at ports and rail hubs, however they're due to arrive at the warehouse in the US in about a week and another big re-stock is due in October to back it up - so we expect US stores to have the dice by the end of this month.

In Europe sales were so huge we sold out, but again have another big re-stock arriving first week of October (again with delays this should have been here by now).

People don't let the dice fool you get some d20 and your ok with those, then 4d6 on them black out the 3 & 4's, 5 + 6 are specials and 1 hit, and 1 + 2=1 hit & 2 hits its that easy.

Yes, there are tables for both the dice and the hit location die in the book. I also specifically covered this perspective this in my last paragraph. The dice are pushed throughout the book. They are part of the design and cost at minimum 20 dollars us. This is not a minor thing to have them be unavailable. I feel very strongly that as neat as they look and as handy as they are for determining a value between 0 and 2 (with special effects), the primary goal is to sell accessories to fill a need created by the core rules.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
