Dawn of the Necromancer is a 5th edition fantasy campaign that pits your PCs against a necromancer of unimaginable power. Here’s what you can expect to find:

  • Epic Scope: Players begin at 1st level and advance all the way to 20th before the final showdown.
  • Adaptable: Easily drops into your own campaign setting, or use the included high fantasy setting of Argomere, a medieval European-style world that worships the gods of the Greek pantheon.
  • Sprawling: A sandbox-style adventure with the players traveling between a cosmopolitan city, memorable towns, an ancient necropolis, and other dark destinations.
  • Imaginative: Includes something for everyone…new magic items, nightmarish monsters, challenging puzzles, detailed locations, unique NPCs, and most importantly, encounters unlike any you have ever seen!
  • Flexible: Each of the 40 major encounters and countless additional adventure hooks can be easily lifted out and used as one-shots or to supplement your current campaign.
  • Customizable: All the encounters include advice on how to adjust the difficulty based on the level and abilities of the PCs. A sandbox isn’t fun if everything is under- or overpowered.

Excerpts

Here are some snippets from the adventure to give you a feel for the content:

  • In Ashgate capital punishment is carried out by the Royal Torpeo, a medusa who petrifies the convicted and then oversees their body being smashed to pieces by those who were wronged as they wield the ceremonial Hammer of Justice.
  • The PCs hear about an annual celebration in the Rookeries called “The Running of the Gorgons”. Each gorgon has a wreath of solid gold secured to their head that runners can keep if they can snatch it off. The use of magic is prohibited, but difficult to enforce with crafty PCs. Harming the gorgons is prohibited, and festival organizers do not provide resurrection services for the participants, a fact made evident by the “Hall of Runners” that displays all the petrified former participants.
  • Cobb’s Boots (Wondrous Item, uncommon) While wearing these boots you can flee from danger in a speedy manner known derisively as “Cobb’s Traverse.” When moving away from an attacking opponent your speed is doubled (regardless of armor or encumbrance) and you can jump twice the normal distance if it is not further than your movement would allow. When attempting a saving throw against a fear effect you suffer a -2 penalty.
  • Constable Marret quote: “I’m glad the council took my advice and brought in some professional help to deal with the situation in the cemetery. I’d take care of it meself if they gave me some deputies and whatnot. And if it weren’t for this bum leg. Or the dropsy. But no matter…as they say, in Darwich justice always prevails!” (The constable is literally the only person who says this.)
  • Half-Swording Feat: This feat requires the wielder of a longsword or greatsword to have both hands free. By grasping the blade of the weapon with their free hand the wielder gains the following benefits: 1.) Change the damage type to piercing or bludgeoning. 2.) Gain a +2 bonus on all Shove attacks. 3.) If their opponent is wearing medium or heavy armor, spend a bonus action to exploit weak spots and gain a +2 to hit.
  • Favored by the Gods optional rule: Praying at a temple, church, or shrine gives the petitioner Advantage on their next attack or ability check connected to that deity (Ares or Athena for combat, Hercules for a Strength check, and so forth.). Alternatively, the GM might allow the PC to choose when to use this Advantage die.
  • “The Jewel of the North”, Dorias is a powerful kingdom dominated by its magnificent namesake capital city. This ancient, ruin-filled city was also once the capital of the Therosian Empire. The waterfront of the city was prized by the old nobility who began to build out into the Gulf of Adsko, eventually expanding the footprint of the city by over 50% and creating an elaborate system of canals and bridges. Dorians are famed sailors and control many of the waterways in the north. Their merchants range far and wide, making the capital a major trade center. At one time Dorias was home to the mighty Therosian fleets of skyships, but the entire navy was in the air when Hecate’s Storm at the end of the War of Brothers dropped them out of the sky and dashed them all to pieces. Even today, artificers attempt to recapture the lost secrets of the skyships in hopes of creating unimaginable trade possibilities.

For those of us who couldn't get in on the Kickstarter, will there be a POD? Here or elsewhere? Thanks!

Do you have a bundle to buy both book and VTT in one price at a discount? I'm interested as the youtube video really drew me in and the encounters are different, not sure how they work as written.

That's a good idea. We'll look into that as a future promotion. The VTT files currently clock in at over 700 MB for 300 individual battle maps and other files. At $5 hopefully it already seems like a good deal.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
