The day was beautiful and balmy, accented serenely by the sounds of waves and seabirds and good-natured commerce. All in all, the perfect time of year to be outside on Wex’s Drift. Pessa braced her hands on the wooden handrail in front of her. The ship she stood on, one of thousands chained and welded and boarded together, formed the main landmass of City Center. She closed her eyes and breathed deep, taking in the smells of the sea salt and the grilled shellfish from the little vendor cooking over on the next boat. And she thought for a moment that she might like to start the day with a bite to eat . . .

. . . when suddenly a roar like rolling thunder out at sea cut through the peace of the day.

Wex's Drift

Welcome to Wex's Drift

Wex's Drift is a city floating in the ocean, cobbled together from thousands of ships chained and roped to one another.

A mammoth fungus-tree provides water, while a decommissioned warship serves as a shopping mall for the wealthy. A brain in a tank is controlling the minds of religious zealots, and a dormant nightmare is about to awaken in its open-air prison. A wrecked ship began it all, but Taralminormesias—a monster as big as an island—could end it with one swipe of her tail. Wex's Drift floats up and down the coast, passing through all sorts of oceanic perils and voyaging weirdos.

What Is This Book?

This is a 155-page system-agnostic sourcebook for tabletop roleplaying games. In it is everything you need to know about Wex's Drift, a lawless and strange city that floats on the sea. History, NPCs, quests, intrigue, items, spells, and flavor are all available for any Game Master to use. Wex's Drift is a unique and fun city that can fit into any RPG system such as Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Exalted, or any other fantasy world. Modern-day and science-fiction systems could work as well, though the contents of this book would require some retooling. Regardless of how you play, Wex's Drift serves as a great adventuring stop or even a place for a party to call home.

7 Location Chapters

Each location comes with:

  • A beautiful hand-drawn map.

  • A narrative intro that gives a glimpse into the flavor of the area.

  • Breakdowns of the major features shown on the map.

  • An adventure hook that acclimates players to the current crisis of the location, many of which have broader implications and tie into other adventure hooks.

  • Two 2d6 tables per location: An encounter table, and a "flavor" table.

  • NPCs, both major and minor. Their descriptions, desires, demeanors.

  • Establishments like shops filled with weird items and taverns for player characters to explore.

  • A nuclear option, which is a way for players to use a major component of that location to do some serious damage. This can be a goal for an evil campaign, or a wild last resort for players up against a wall.

Spells, Items, Weapons, Armor

There are 20 pages of spells, items, weapons, and armor, each crafted to enhance your roleplay experience. Some are weird (like the spell major conglomerate flesh) and some are great for blackmailing the trustworthy (like the lantern of hidden things), but none of them are made with combat strictly in mind. Of course there are weapons which obviously have a combat function, but there are no +1 items, and no swords that just do extra fire damage.

These are all experience-focused spells and items. Every component of Wex's Drift is made to ignite an interesting and unique play experience for your group. Plus, every weapon, armor, and item entry has an awesome illustration.

Beasts and Foes

The enemies each come with a difficulty from 1-5 stars, combat behavior, its instinct (what it wants and what it will prioritize), and a detailed description. All of that, plus even more hand-drawn illustrations. Pro tip: Do not fight The Thing in The Shallows without weakening it first.

Thank You

The fact that you are even interested in Wex's Drift is the best. We put a ton of work into it and genuinely want only to bring you some wild experiences. Good luck braving the sun and sea and insane arachnomorphs and interdimensional demon birds and political murders and shelled leviathans and moon-cult wackos and conglomerated flesh beings and the thing in the shallows and the Warzen family and megafauna fungus trees and charlatan oracles.

Now that I've had time to run a few sessions in Wex's Drift I can say that it really makes my campaign more fun. I'm not the best at worldbuilding, and my players and I got a little sick of the traditional Forgotten Realms. Finding stat blocks that fit the descriptions of the enemies wasn't a big deal, and the players are having a great time exploring the city. They've dumped more than one "accident" over a railing and into the sea.

It is a mega-cool book. I backed the KS and enjoyed the setting, beautiful pen-and-ink drawings and maps. It’s a nicely produced indy gaming supplement and something easily added to a steampunk setting or alt-fantasy like Everway.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
