Somnus Domina: The Petal Knight (5e Class)

Watermarked PDF

Emblem worn proudly upon their armor, a duelist wearing the colors of a rose investigates the events of a plague sweeping the land. They typically travel alongside clerics and paladins who may aid their attempts to heal the land.

Petal Knights are proud warriors who tow the line between sorcerers and duelists. Wearing light weaponry and holding themselves to a code of ethics they swear by, these combatants forge a connection with the world that allows them to draw out their own nature in the form of an epithet: a flower that represents their heart and soul. Commonly, they use their natural magical powers to protect nature and those who abide by it, championing justice, order, and coexistence with the land.

This class is a pact magic class, which aims to protect order and balance in the world. Their subclasses, epithets, are each based on a flower that represents the shape of their soul. This release contains five epithets, with more to come. They are:

  • The Camellia, representing those who draw strength from bonds with others. They link themselves to their allies to join their strengths together.
  • The Dahlia, representing a burning heart and enthusiasm within. Allows for the manifestation of flames and fierce attacks.
  • The Hydrangea, representing those with a stoic exterior or who carry a great sadness. Allows for control over ice and cold.
  • The Osmanthus, for those who are strong of mind. They see the world as it is, and face down evil face to face.
  • The Pink Rose, upbeat and humble warriors. These knights strike with accuracy, stunning opponents at extended ranges.

There will be more coming in the future!

(The Petal Knight class was made for the Nat19: Vestige of Ophiuchus D&d 5E stream on Twitch, streamed every Saturday at 1 PM PST on the Nat19Official channel. Come join us if you'd like to see it in action!)

I'm hoping to get a clarification to the extra attack improvement feature that some of the subclasses get at 11th level! Since you can replace one weapon attack with three attacks, does that mean you would get four attacks in the action? Three from the improved, and then one from the base extra attack? Or was this intended to just be three total attacks?

As with all classes with Extra attack, these instances don't stack. The Attack action grants you one weapon attack, and anything with the wording "you can make two attacks/three attacks instead of one" (or any slight variation of that wording) is replacing only that single attack. The Extra Attack improvements that say "two attacks instead of one" only give you three total since they're in the place of the one you would otherwise make. This language is the same as for all Extra Attack features in classes like the Fighter.

Hey so this module is super cool but I did have a somewhat unrelated question: the primary art for the Petal Knight isn't in this module and when I go to click on it, I get the message "A module you are attempting to use is not loaded. Nat19 Campaign Module - DMS 2021-07-28" Personally I have no problem with a missing image but is there an actual existing module for one of your campaigns for sale?

That's the module title for something in one of my own games. When FG starts running slowly, I bundle loose/old files into a new module because the system reads module data and campaign data differently, so it helps it run better. Unfortunately, that image isn't available in the current render of the file, but it's all yours to look at in the pdf~

The class looks pretty cool, but I noticed the OGL is missing from the end, as are any content declarations.

Ah! We changed our pdf creation pipeline a while ago and it looks like we totally forgot to reinclude the OGL pages. Thank you for pointing that out!

Probably a good idea to check your other publication, but this is the only one I've bought so far.

When you left your comment we swept through everything to check if we missed it elsewhere. No worries.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
