Second Edition Classes: Cartomancer

Selected Option:

Cards of Power!

The Cartomancer is a brand-new class for Pathfinder Second Edition, a spellcaster dabbling in every magical tradition as they draw power from a card deck that is equal parts weapon and magical focus. Mystical gamblers and masters of chance, cartomancers use their cards as tools for weaving spells with decks that may focus on divination, illusion, and mental manipulation through occult magic, elements and flora and fauna with a primal deck, raw power of life and death with a divine deck, or the diverse and balanced options of an arcane deck, along with over 50 class feats from Combination Discard and Pass the Deal to Aces and Eights and Three Card Monte, plus a dozen more feats, traits, and backgrounds. You’ll also find a complete system of Card Casting, with unique spells like arcane erosion, untouchable ward, gambler’s guise, and bend nature for every card in a standard deck that you can heighten and empower by varying the number of cards you devote to their power from your mystic hand. You’ll also get focus spells like cartomancy and dead man’s hand and a bestiary with nearly a dozen specialized card constructs to unleash on your enemies. Grab this incredible 68-page Pathfinder 2E class expansion today and Make Your Game Legendary!

Although it is not clearly stated, or I did not see it, the Cartomancer Foundry VTT version also comes with the PDF version. It may be known to many that it does. However, I did not, so this is for those on the fence about purchasing.

How do you access the Foundry VTT module once you get the PDF here?

For the Divine Ace of Hearts: Forestall Doom, I had a question on the first empower effect. It states: "Empower (1 card) The target becomes one willing creature and the trigger becomes that creature taking damage." but lists no range for the effect. However, the following empower effect is: "Empower (+1 card) The range increases by +30 feet.". My guess is that the original empower effect should be "one willing creature within 30 feet" but the range just got left out, and empowering +1 just doubles or more the range depending on how much its empowered.

For the card flash fade, it says it only lasts until the end of your turn but also states that enemies can get a chance to seek you out on their turn as if it was meant to last longer. Is this an error in the duration or am I misunderstanding a lasting effect from becoming invisible?

Also for deadly discard, is the maximum range 20 feet, or is it a range increment of 20 feet?

Flash Fade, the enemies seeking you looks like it was just carried over from invisibility text.

Range is 20 feet. It can be increased with distant discard at 8th level.

This is very confusing. A Cartomancer sounds like they would be using maps and/or ley lines or something. "Carto" has long been associated with maps, since it's etymology is based on Greek for maps or sheets of paper. Now, if it was Cardomancer, it'd make a lot more sense.

I stand corrected, thank you.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
