GrimDark Scifi Room Map Tiles

Hello fellow sci-fi heretics!

I couldn't find the right map tiles to use for my Dark Heresy campaign, so I thought I'd make my own. I'm really happy with how these turned out, and my players like them so I thought I would share them with others who might find them useful!

I am not charging a set price for these as these are my first ever self-made map tiles! I would like to practise and get better before I charge set prices. They might be a bit basic but they sure get the job done!

How to use them

The download is a zip file with raw png files of the tiles. These map tiles were created specifically for Roll20 in mind as that is where I run my campaigns. But they should work for other VTTs.

What do you get?

tile overview

This package contains 17 map tiles:

  • 3 different crawlspace tiles, for sneaking around in!

  • 1 door tile, amazing!

  • 6 stone floor tiles, with variations

  • 2 straight walls, one with darker shadows and one that's a bit brighter

  • 2 corner walls, one L shaped and another a single node to help with joining the rooms

  • 2 loading-bay decals, one dirty and another clean

  • 1 metal mesh grid floor tile

Modular Usage!

Any good map tile set should be modular! And this one is! Many different room variations can be created by reusing these tiles, an example can be seen below. All tiles integrate seamlessly.

Please note friends, that these are map tiles only. To be used with VTT platforms such as Roll20. This is not a stand-alone game, only a player aid to help with the creation of spooky and gritty maps.

These map tiles were tested and used for grid cells of size 70px x 70px and 140px x 140px.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
