Into the Wild is written for Old School Essentials but can be easily adapted for use with any OSR-style game. It combines and expands on six books by Third Kingdom Games: Classing up the Joint, Domain Building, Hexcrawl Basics, Random Weather Generation, OSR Expanded Classes, and Wealth by NPC level.

Designed to be used alone or as a companion book to Filling in the Blanks and a Guide to Thieves' Guilds, Into the Wild provides guidance for high level play. From exploring the wilderness to founding a domain, creating new classes for OSR games, and more. All of the artwork was commisioned for the book. The rules from the aforementioned six books have been revised and integrated into a coherent whole, with plenty of examples of how it works in play. Additionally, Into the Wild contains:

*Random encounter tables designed to populate wilderness lairs, not just create random encounters.

*A simple mass combat system designed to be used to resolve everything from large-scale pitched battles to large encounters in the wilderness for when you don't want to roll one hundred attack rolls.

*Two pages of unit tokens for use with 1" battlemats and the mass combat system.

*Example settlements and strongholds that are blank to be filled in by the Referee and used as needed.

*Domain tracking sheets by James V West.

*and more!

Hi! I got the Premium Hardcover, Color + PDF version and I feel there are some grave problems here...

1) The background color of the cover picture and the background itself is different black color. I can see the cutoff between the cover background and the picture. But this is not all - in good lighting, I can actually read "Keep on the Rawhide Gang -- Hex 15.42" behind the "Into the Wild" title, in light gray color...

2) The text (Not for resale) at the bottom of the Table of Contents leaks into the black, decorative borderline of the page...

3) The text "How This All Comes Together" leaks into (overlays partially) the illustration at the bottom left of the page. This text also leaks well into the Chapter 2 on the next page, which is weird.

There are some other editing/typographic issues too... Are all of these inherent with the product or the book? I can see some of these in the pdf file as well! This is very disappointing... I...See more

Thanks for the feedback. I've taken down the Premium copies while I work through this, and would be happy to give you a refund. I've been compiling a list of errata here for a revision pass:

Thank you. Based on what I've seen so far, I am sure you'd help. A partial refund would be welcome. I did get the pdf, which I am sure will be updated... but the print is quite faulty, unfortunately, and I wasn't able to tell if this is DTRPG print...

As I mentioned I noticed a lot of these issues in the pdf as well... If you think you can use it, I am happy to send you a full list of things somewhere that I noticed. Earlier I opened a ticket with DTRPG as well, around the time when I wrote the above few lines.

If you don't mind terribly, and have a sec, adding to the errata doc I linked to would be most helpful. It should be open to edits. My current layout artist has had issues with this book in particular. I'm not sure why there's the bleed through on the front page; it's from another book, but they're different sizes, so I don't see why they would have used the same cover template? I also know there were some issues with corrupted tables, etc. Right now I'm working on collecting errata (there's at least one missing table, as well) and then I think I'm going to start from scratch with someone new doing layout.

I'll be happy to refund you directly if you want to drop me a line at

The Ironskin (Siderenos) class is missing its XP table. It also doesn't say if it fights as a Fighter or whatever. I assume it does, but the xp chart is important!

I will look into this. Not sure how that would have happened.

On page 78 it refers to a map below speaking of the shadow of civilization. There is no map below. I don't own the PDF so not sure if it was updated there, but I just received my print book about a week ago.

It looks like the map was left out of the book. I've added it to the compiled errata document I've been maintaining. You can find links to the errata docs for Into the Wild and Filling in the Blanks at

Also seeing on page 122 under Siege Weapons and Sieges. Housing half the MC of troops puts no stress while housing up to maximum depletes supplies. The example doubles the amount. It states a city with a MC of 5 can comfortably house 5 companies, 6-9 companies (twice normal supplies), and 10 companies (three times). According to the rules stated before that 5 would be the maximum and would exhaust 3 times the supplies.

In Table 30a -- Common Trade Goods, 86-99 is "Roll on Table 30b", while 98-00 is "Unique"? Which one is wrong? Should 89-99 be changed to 89-97? Or should 98-00 be changed to 00? Or something else?

It should read 86-98 Table 30b, 99-100 unique. Thanks for the catch will add it to the Errata file.

Hi Todd, I wanted to back the KS but had already gone overboard with Zinequest 3. Will you be making this available for POD for non-backers

Hey Todd, how can I track when the errata will be live on DTRPG? I want to use my hardcover discount code from kickstarter after your revision process is complete.

From the lair generation section, the Fey table looks to be missing. In addition, several tables in that section are missing notes or subtables (what do the asterisks mean for Construct or Elemental on the Unusual table, for example).

Where are the Skills mentioned in the book for the alternative classes? I find it odd that such a key thing is mentioned in every class yet the information isn't present in the book and I can't find the Hex document listed for them (from the book).

Other than this, this book is really excellent and I'm glad I backed the KS.

I counted 11 times you reference a page number but don’t actually have a page number listed. Can you please fix that?

Yes, that will be part of the revision process. I am compiling a list of edits to make.

Hey Todd,

I backed the kickstarter and I tried to use my code from backerkit (into the wild hardcover 3) to buy the hardcover tonight. DTRPG is telling me that the code is expired. Can I get a new POD code after the revision process has been completed? It would be great to get the errata incorporated into my print copy. Thanks!

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
