The Petal Hack 2nd Ed.

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Tékumel is a place with the politics and intrigue of the Roman Empire, the religions of ancient India and pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, the magic of the Arabian Nights, the monsters and demons of the Cthulhu mythos, plus ancient ruins containing the technology of a good space opera thrown in just to keep things interesting.

The Petal Hack strips the rules down to a minimum so you can focus on character and setting.

The Second Edition updates the rules to The Black Hack 2nd Edition as well as other changes totaling 32 additional pages.

Hello! I was wondering if you could clarify the armor rules, as they are not clear to me.

"Each type will reduce damage by a limited amount" -- by how much? Do you roll "Armor Dice" after Resting to get "Armor Points"? What are Armor Points values? Page 55 sheds some light. When you roll Armor Dice, do they work like Usage Die in that Armor can degrade? Why would I "Sunder" a metal helmet? What even is "Sundering"? (https://the-black-hack.jehaisleprintemps.net/english/#special-features)

From my perspective, I recommend giving the text around Armor some love :)

Thanks for creating this - it makes Tekumel accessible to someone like me.

The book mentions influence from ::Macchiato Monsters:: which after some investigation, gives armour Usage Die (Which down grades on a 1-3), and at the start of each combat the first time you're hit, you roll your current Usage Die, for the rest of the fight, that number is the amount of damage you reduce from each attack.

The Armor Die is a Usage Die. You roll it the first time you get hit for damage in a combat. The rolled number is the maximum HP the armor can stop during this fight. On a short rest, the character rebuckles the armor, making it so the armor can protect again in the next fight. If you roll a 1 or 2, the die size drops one increment until it gets repaired. Roll the lower die size next combat.

Sundering a shield or helmet absorbs all of an attack's damage at the cost of destroying the shield or helmet.

P.S. the next version will simplify the armor rules to just 1, 2, or 3 points per attack (for Light, Medium, and Heavy armor). Critical hits drop the armor protection by 1 until repaired.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
