Welcome to Fifty Winter Encounters! This title is intended for those times where your players find themselves in the arctic or a winter scene but are beginning to slump a bit. These encounters will help you liven up your swamp a bit for them. The majority of these are non-combat encounters - some of them are not even encounters, but events or findings that they could come across in such an environment. Some of these are merely one-off things that might catch a traveler's eye, while others could serve as a plot hook for an adventure or campaign.

The book is a total of 7 pages long, with 5 pages of content (plus 1 cover page and 1 credit page). Links are included to the few encounters that involve combat (or potential combat at least) for both 5e and Pathfinder 2.

If you like what you see and if you’d like to delve further into the wonders and horrors of the gaming world, please join us at Beyond the Horizon as we delve further into the worlds of adventure.

Aw! Is this locked in to PF2? I'm still using PF1.. and with all of the Paizo modules I own, I probably will still be in PF1 for the next decade or so,. :/

Sorry, I hadn't seen your message until now. Apparently I didn't get a notification for it.
No, it's not locked to PF2 - if it was, it'd have the PF2 logo on it. :) It's systemless and can be used with minimal adaptation to PF1, PF2, 5e, or any other fantasy RPG. :)
(The links and so on ARE for PF2 and 5e though - those seem to be the games that most people are currently playing and getting books for. Replacing them with appropriate other creatures is easy. :) )

Well, I guess since it's free right now anyway, I'll check it out. The link thing isn't real clear what it's referring to.

FYI, I don't think THAT many people have switched to PF2E. It's going to be a long, LONG time before Paizo can match the amount of content available for 3.5/d20/PF1.. and I don't see any reason to switch to PF2E anytime soon.

Ok, the links are mostly benign. The book is a list of 50 random encounters, think tundra environment. The LINKS mentioned are every so often, if the encounter involves a polar bear or a generic human NPC, the author links out to the SRD content for 5e and PF2E. Absolutely no concern about finding my own PF1 SRD polar bear or whatever. ;)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
