Welcome to the Urban Fantasy and Steampunk sale! From now through April 18th, this digital title has been marked down by up to 30%! For more values, visit our Urban Fantasy and Steampunk sale page.

Be a hero. You pick the hours.

This is not the core rulebook for #iHunt, but instead the bare minimum tools to play. It’s a reference guide so you can make your hunters, pit them against monsters, and tell cool stories.

If you have the #iHunt core rulebook, then this book is an invaluable quick reference of particular value at the table when players need to make characters or find a rule quickly.

Additionally, this book features a crew of hunters fully built and fleshed out with motivations, a hangout, and enemies. And it has a toolkit adventure ready to play! This way you can just jump right into your first game.

While you can technically play with this book alone, it's a bare minimum reference guide and quickstart adventure. We recommend having a copy of the #iHunt RPG as well.

No it doesn't. It's super barebones. There's one sample monster so you can understand the way the monster rules work, but there's not a comprehensive list of examples.

I'm not trying to be critical here, but while it makes a certain amount of sense to offer a stripped-down, player-facing version of a more comprehensive core rulebook, that sort of product is an odd thing to combine with a quickstart. I may be mistaken, but I'd always thought quickstarts were meant to be loss leaders in a sense: free or inexpensive, they provide a chance to see if a game might be your cup of tea (or not).

From that point of view, $20 is pretty rich for my blood. (The core iHunt PDF is even pricier, but that's fine, if arguably a trifle pricey, for a core rulebook.) I'd love to check out the game, but I wish there were an affordable, or ideally free, try-out product.

I mean, it's a print book at a pretty standard price for non-core print books.

Yeesh! I didn't see this was for a physical edition. I am so used to the products here being virtual that I passed right by that little data point.

It *is* a reasonable price, and I formally apologize for stating otherwise. :)

That said, I'd still love a free/cheap starter PDF so I can see if it's a game for me or not....

Totally get you there, and we'll be working on something.

That said, the preview above is actually the entire book. Technically you can read the whole thing at your leisure before buying. I know it's not a perfect option. But we're looking at what we can do there.

Thanks so much for the info, and for the understanding. I'll keep my eyes open! (Good customer service like this makes me even more likely to do so.)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
