Winner of a 2022 Silver ENnie Award for Best Setting

Nominated for 2022 ENnie Awards for Best Setting, Best Production Value, and Product of the Year!

This is a collaborative, storytelling RPG about a Chinese family making their living by running a restaurant in one of America’s Chinatowns, circa 1920. Despite societal backlash and anti-Chinese laws, they have turned a profit and their quality of life has recently improved.

Night, however, brings a new terror.

Players take on the roles of members of the Chinese family (mostly from Guangdong province), spanning three generations, who face threats of jiangshi (hopping vampires) at night and racism by day. It has players balancing the responsibility of maintaining their family business with protecting themselves and their community from the dreaded Jiangshi. This is primarily a game about storytelling. Combat is limited, but horror, drama and sometimes comedy are the primary vehicles for driving the game forward.

Designed by Banana Chan and Sen-Foong Lim, with writing by some of thebest creators in the industry!

The page numbers jump from 59 to 61. Either the entire book needs to be paginated anew, or an otherwise-blank page numbered 60 needs be inserted where appropriate. Also, each page is an image file rather than text plus graphics, which makes the entire book equivalent to a scanned document and not very useful should a GM need to make handouts.

I sent a shopping list of issues I had identified with the supplied PDFs and that has apparently been passed on to the layout department for review. I'd missed the page mis-numbering though.
Hopefully they can sort things out quickly, because this book (as it is now) is pretty much unprintable at home, and there are problems with the other game files too.

We will be sending an updated document again before this goes to print. Thanks for the feedback.

New files failed to fix most of the issues I raised, nor the page numbering raised by Michael. Can you please look into what's happened and put things right? I sent details via FB Messenger.

This is still a PDF containing images and no text. So it is not searchable and I cannot get it printed at home due to its gigantic size. Will this be corrected soon?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
