Renegade Legion is an exciting and diverse science fiction universe set in the 75th Century, where the mighty armies of the great Tellun Empire (TOG) are arrayed against a Union of free humans and aliens.

Standing with the Union against the Empire are the Renegade Legions, former TOG troops who have broken away from the Empire and now stand between it and total supremacy over the known galaxy.

Centurion is a tactical combat game of Grav Tanks set in the Renegade Legion Universe, where you lead formations of Grav Tanks and other combat elements on the battlefields. The book contains everything a player needs to playtest the Beta 2.0 release version of Centurion and includes the following: beta game rules, gameplay descriptions, printable tokens, cards and game aids, and details to allow players to play out missions on the tabletop.

In Centurion, you are the battlefield commander and will jump straight into the action of the wars between the galaxy-spanning empire of the TOG and the Renegade Legions themselves who, along with the Union, stand as the last bastion against the ever-growing might of the Tellun Empire.

Do you have what it takes to lead the TOG to galactic domination, or will you lead the Union to victory? Can you fight the Renegade Legions to a new home and a bright future? You will decide.

Welcome to the Renegade Legion Universe.

What are the key changes from Beta 1.0 to Beta 2.0?

Two members of our team found a way to condense three levels of rules into one, through some beautiful design work. We now have armor, shields, a clever damage mechanic, altitude, and a few other items all in one level of rules. We love what they came up with, and their initiative and clever thinking has greatly improved the game.

There are now two dice variations used, instead of ten, with three of each used in various combinations. Additionally, altitude, commanders, Unit combat management, and a keyword system that makes for huge Unit flexibility without overly complex cards are now in the base system. Centurion is an all-in-one-level game now, and it meets our core aims of simplicity and playability with easy-to-implement granularity.

Well, if it's not TOG it's not TOG. :-( If you're going to strip out all the mechanics and lore that make it 'Centurion' why bother. Why should I bother if it's a bait and switch.

I had an absolute ball playing this after downloading it. Finding this on TTS was a nice surprise. Great to see RL back in the world as it was in desperate need of a facelift, and the old system was clunky. This new system and played easy and well, with lots more options than I thought it would have at first glance.

You guys are overlooking the worst how does TOG (Terran Overlord Government) become "Tellun". And why do Grav tanks need thrusters? If I am going to play Armada, Legion, or X-wing I will play those games. If I want to play Centurion I will just pull out my FASA books.

I started this day out looking for the Renegade Legion "R", because I loved the old Renegade Legion from FASA (still have all of it), and I wanted to paint that "R" on my UCM ships from Dropfleet Commander, and I happened upon this. At first glance I was so excited I almost turned my shorts brown, but as I got to digging in for more information, saw the new official page, the patreon, etc, that excitement has turned to ash in my mouth. =( I 100% agree with every sentiment below, this is just another tragic case of "We can do it better" Renegade Legion in name only. Tossing out the game mechanics wholesale? They were/are some of the best ever designed. Tossing out the background as well? TOG without the Roman motif just seems vapid. Tossing out the established races?

This is an entirely new universe, just give it your own name, and go forward with your vision for the background and game mechanics. I liked the visuals I saw; I thought this could actually work because...See more

Never could understand why companies would pay for an IP just to change everything.
Always seemed self defeating to me.
You tend to drive away the player you are trying to buy.
So you are starting from square one, so might as well just make your own game in your own universe.

This looks like a very interesting game. But if you are going to do the final production with pastel text against a tinted background, I may as well not bother because I won't be able to read it easily. Some of us have been in gaming for a very long time and we are getting older; we appreciate a bit of contrast when reading!

Thank you for your feedback, Ken! We'll be overhauling this in a higher contrast for the final release (post-beta) version. Appreciate your input!

Hmmm. The artwork is in no way evocative of the original, it has lost the "look" of Renegade Legion, and the changes to the game system and lore have lost the "feel" of Renegade Legion. The system looks fast and workable, but it is to the original RenLeg sort of what Alpha Strike is to Battletech- a quick-play version that works, and is fun, but loses some of the granularity.

This may appeal to folks who have not played the original, but as someone who owns the entire original line and re-reads the novels every couple of years, I feel it's too much a departure from the original source material. The grav tanks do not look like TOG, Commonwealth or Renegade grav tanks. The armored soldiers do not look in any way like an update of Legionnaires. It's OK to update artwork- look at what Anthony Scroggins did with the "unseen" in Battletech. This art is great- but it is not Renegade Legion.

The new publishers should bear in mind that the lore, the look, and...See more

I'm dubious about this, especially since it's appearing to be different from the original rules. Hey, Budgie, don't mess up what wasn't broken. You won't make any money off of it. And keep Commonwealth, not Union. That just plain sucks.

Even the designs are different and less appealing. So far, not so good...but I'll go ahead and download it and take a gander.

Okay, that didn't take long. The title should be Renegade Legion: Centurion In Name Only (Beta 1.0).

But, it's just a Beta, maybe actual fans of the old system can convince Budgie to do things right!

Union? Meh....so much for capturing the original feel. What else is going to be dumbed down?

As a publisher, I can't leave reviews. Fair enough. I'll just say that this demo, at least, is _very_ different from the original Centurion.

Why the change from "Commonwealth" to "Union"? Union is just kinda bland.

So how did you get the rights to publish this?

More than a little disappointed that the Commonwealth has been replaced by the Union. Personally, find that the Commonwealth sounded better than Union and a good counterpart to the Terran Empire.

Other that my first read through makes interested to see where they are going to go. Interceptor was my favorite in the series.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
