The Churn Campaign Setting

A cold war has settled on the Churn, its nations primed and ready to strike at the first sign
of weakness. Covertly, quietly, relentlessly they hunt for knowledge and materials, each
nation aware that any new discovery could tip the scales in their favor.

Then came the Weaving. Every kind of man-made object, from architecture to machine,
was embedded across the planet, littering the Churn’s landscape with Earth’s
technologies. So to were the people of Earth. Bodies fell from the sky, materialized inside
solid objects and, most commonly, dropped into the ocean miles from any hope of rescue.
Only a lucky few managed to traverse the Weaving safely, left with no choice but to find
their place in this strange new world.

Now smoke from the Dwarven forges can be seen shimmering over the horizon, Elvish
long boats have been spotted floating above the plateau of Nova Gale, the mercenary Grey
Legions are soon to be free of their contract with Isla, corpses wearing the garb of the old
human empire have begun to wash upon the shore and, worse yet, the Orcs have
ceased their infighting. The Gods grow weary of this stalemate between nations and begin
to move their followers as they vie for power and settle debts. Far and wide the powder
keg that is the Churn grows more restless, awaiting the spark that will change it forever.

You are that Spark.

From what I see, the book has everything it says it would and it looks pretty well done considering it was done by one person. I've been following this from the start of the kickstarter and can see where they would have liked to put in additional artwork if the kickstarter had been fully funded, but the formatting looks very much like Wizards of the Coast. Can appreciate what the other comments are saying, but I feel like this is a good first work for the creator and look forward to further content from them. Happy with what I paid.

Hi David B

Thank you for following us from kickstarter, I am sad as well that we did not meet our goal for more artwork, which would of been great to have. I am however looking forward to seeing how the world is changed by peoples campaigns.

Have to toss this question out: $20 for 83 pages?

Hi George K

The $20 for 83 pages is to help recover the amount of time I spent creating the world, the overtime I worked in order to hire the artist to create the character artwork, not to mention the host of computer programs I had to purchase or rent in the process to design it all. Grand total is over $3,500 dollars, so I felt that $20 for a campaign setting that I plan on expanding upon and advancing the timeline with player input next year without needing those people to pay some kind of monthly fee would be more then adequate.

Hey Thomas, my guess is that the complaints are about pages like 6 and 7 where the page is taken over by a large illustration (of just one character) and a small blurb of text. They're likely saying that these pages feel like filler to pad the book size.

Hi Entropy R

The character art is very high resolution and making it smaller takes away from the work the artist put into it. The small blurb for each class is just to give the reader a general idea of where these classes are found in the world hence why its smaller. This seems like a format complaint and I will pass it along to the editor who handled the formatting. Thank you for your constructive criticism Entropy R, I really hope this is what Lawrence H was referring too.

Hi Thomas

I know you tried to Kickstarter the campaign and regrettably you were not successful, you could of given up then, but you didn't. Instead you shouldered the development costs and continued to work on your vision to share with others which I think is very commendable of you.

I have seen publishers charge a few dollars for several pages or less, so there have been other publishers that have charged more for less content. However the quantity does not matter, it is the quality of the work and you have sunk your heart into this product.

So please, I know some might question certain choices and decisions, but those that understand your journey appreciate what you have done and achieved. Wish you the best of luck with the road ahead, keep it up

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
