100 Fantasy Entertainers and Artists to See on the Street

This is a collection of 100 different entertainers and artists, of varying levels of skill from none upwards, who could be seen in a fantasy setting. Some are technically not performers at all, even though they may draw a crowd. They are aimed at being street performers, but they could be seen in other places, such as carnivals, fairs and taverns, although some are not suitable for indoor performances. The entertainers can be used as background colour for a suitable setting, and some have peculiarities that are a source of potential adventure hooks.

Here are some sample results:

  • Madame Blatsky is a sight in extensive skirts, hundreds of bangles and necklaces and beringed fingers, together with excessive makeup. She claims to be a palm reader, descended from a long line of such, who have travelled the world. In truth, Madame Blatsky is no such thing, and she isn't sure just who is in her line. She grew up in the city and discovered a talent for telling people what they want to hear in a way that makes them willing to pay.
  • Magic Dancers are a dance troupe consisting of low-powered spell users. They use minor magics and cantrips in their performances to enhance the show with such as sounds and illusionary effects, but they are in and of themselves talented dancers. The magic simply enhances the show, putting it a step up from others, rather than being the entirety of their performance.
  • Malc Turmoil is a juggler in brightly-patterned clothes of clashing colours. He specialises in juggling sharp objects and those that are on fire. In every performance, he always drops an item, to ensure that people stay in the macabre hope Malc will cut himself or accidentally set himself on fire.
  • Malice is a man, or perhaps a woman, in a half mask and scarlet painted lips. The upper half of the mask is made from white china with no holes for eyes, so it's uncertain how Malice sees, yet they clearly do. Malice makes fun of those passing in a hoarse, rasping voice, picking up on any of their traits and exaggerating and making fun of them to degrees that have reduced more than a few targets to tears. Malice doesn't seem to want paying; they just want to cut as many people to ribbons with their tongue as they can.
  • Marvellous Maeve is a spelluser who cannot cast much more than a cantrip, but has proven to be very skilled with those minor enchantments. She can be found putting on displays with the wide range of cantrips she knows that are suitable for entertaining, many of which Maeve has created herself. Maeve's skill with cantrips is such that she can put on a show that would put a more powerful spelluser to shame.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
