Bonepicker's Tower

They say the old baron went mad.

They say he killed his lover.

They say those ruins where once stood his opulent castle are haunted.

Most people avoid the Broken Tower high on Eagle Peak, haunted or not. Bad things have happened up there.

But some winged demon has been terrorizing Glynn Rock and something has to be done. They say the demon has been seen roosting on the crumbling crenellations of the Mad Baron's Tower.

And then there's the bones...

Bonepicker's Tower is an adventure suitable for characters levels 2-4. The adventure is set in the Rosewood Highlands and is one of the adventures in the Upon the Face of the Deep campaign.

Just wondering if the adventure mentioned in relation to the map to the New Temple to the Old Gods has been published yet or if that's still to come. Thanks!

Hi Michael,
The New Temple to the Old Gods is mapped and outlined and partially written, but I've been sidelined by multiple personal and work related issues, plus I have serious ADD so I get partway on a project, then on to another, then another. I have, no lie, at least 20 adventures in partial states of completion. This one isn't near the top as far as completeness at this point, I'm sorry to say, as it's a pretty large adventure location... Maybe by mid-2023? But no promises... sorry. Glad you're interested though!

Having said all of that: a stand in for the New Temple might be the classic Temple of the Elemental Evil (available on DMs Guild for ten bucks) thought it's a sprawling, glorious mess and a challenge to run; or if you want something smaller and more manageable, there's Temple of Old Faith that might be a decent stand it https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/293815/Temple-of-Old-Faith - it's a different mood/vibe than New Temple is going to have, but it's a solid adventure with...See more

Hi I got this and I really liked the tone of the adventure and the selection of enemies and NPCs. The rumors about the main baddie are very evocative. I also liked that the number of enemies and the challenge they represent make sense for the story and are not forcefully balanced. Players need to be smart. Well done!
The overland map style is not my cup of tea I think it clashes with the style of the dungeons and the overall feel of the adventure, however, not a big issue at all.

I am now looking forward to running this adventure at some point. I think it would make a nice adventure to drop in a "mystic Britain" kind of setting such as the Moonshae Isles or the like.

Hi, I am planning to run Bonepicker's Tower this coming Winter for my group, but i have a question about the scale of the dungeon and tower maps; is each square suppose to represent 5' or 10'?

Hi Craig. Hope your players enjoy the Tower! I intended the squares to represent 5' (if I remember correctly!!) but it should work either way.

Hi, I’m planning to run this adventure along with the rest of the released parts of Upon the Face of the Deep. I love the adventures a lot but the larger scale maps are confusing me; I’m trying to figure out where Bonepicker’s Tower (and A Shadow Upon the Greatwood too) is in relation to Wyrmslayer’s Keep and Hope Cross. I’ve looked through the free document maps but I still think I’m missing something. I have tracked down where The Mud King is though. Thanks!

Jacques,
Thanks for the question. In a few minutes I will upload a map of the Central Highlands of the Rosewood Highlands that should clear things up a bit. If you need more info, please post another comment and I'll do my best to clarify.

Could I get some more info on the "Upon the Face of the Deep" campaign? What other modules are involved and how does it relate to Northern Tier and/or Shadow Over the Greatwood hex crawls?

Hi Alexander.

The "Upon the Face of the Deep" campaign will be a kind of regional hex crawl or sandbox with about a dozen total adventures that will be interconnected: locations like the Verdant Portal (Bonepicker's Tower) and NPCs (like Steffian the Tinker and Leafbeard the Treeman from Bonepicker's Tower or Suberian the Blue from The Shadow Over Greatwood) will appear.

The Northern Tier hexcrawl isn't directly related to the campaign, but some elements from the Northern Tier (especially some of the special encounters like Old Whitebeard and Dorcan the Man Collector and The Boy Who Dug Fifteen Graves) are slated to appear, but nothing is definite.

The adventures should be playable on their own - but they have these hooks that tie one into the other. Most of them are far from complete, however. I have outlines and some partially completed manuscripts but playtesting and final editing and layout are still some time away. As I indicated above, it's slated to be...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
