Alell, civilized and cultured- see it while you can.

“The concert hall at Alell is the finest venue in the Imperium and almost acoustically perfect, unfortunately the locals are a pain in the arse.”

Gallably Morinon, Chief Conductor of the Reginian Symphony

The Overall Vibe

Alell is a beautiful world with a moderate temperature, rich blue sky and lush vegetation especially around the equator. It is widely settled with high tech hamlets clustered around low rise central business districts. The economy moved to hydrogen many years ago and most transport is automated with only the military and essential services plus the occasional enthusiast being able to self-drive.

There is very little evident poverty however it does exist with an underclass of working poor. Laws are enforced by remote surveillance, identity chips and policing drones with unrestrained access to citizens data and property. The result is an almost non-existent level of crime. Travellers will need to be wary of transgressing local laws and must always attend a briefing before heading to the surface as well as carry an identity chip with them.

Generally, the society seems cohesive and harmonious with industries exporting a variety of tech level ten goods including a range of autonomous vehicles. It is an industrious society and the people take pride in their manufacturing and technology to the point where tardiness and shoddy workmanship are not socially acceptable.

Alell is all about conforming to societies expectation and working for the group rather than the individual, that’s not to say they don’t know how to have a good time its just that they are acutely aware that the group is and was integral to the survival of the planet.

The major religion on Alell is Gardening. The natural environment is seen as critical and sacred. The Church of the Inspired Gardener is the official state religion with the worshipping of nature and all it contains an important part of Alell society. Every house will have a garden of some variety which has a temple at its centre. The spirit of the planet is said to dwell in these temples and can be contacted by ensuring time is spent tending the gardens around it or the wider planet. The Groundskeeper is the high priest of the religion and is based in the mountain bastion of Calloway near the city of Agadip. Every year at the start of the local spring avid Gardeners make the pilgrimage to Calloway for the “Spreading Of The Seeds” ceremony which involves the distribution millions of seeds to the faithful to be planted when they return home.

  • Alell is a rich world with a shirt-sleeve atmosphere and a balance of available surface water. The system supports a population of 118,450,000, which makes it too urbanized to make an agricultural world. This world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Regina Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Domain of Deneb. Alell, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a baronet, and the fiefdoms of a baron, and a viscount. All four are members of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world.

Points of interest

  • Alell is a constitutional monarchy under Captain Roger XXII, a direct descendant of the captain of the original colony ship, but the Alell Tourist Authority has a disproportionate amount of influence, and Makhidkarun recently bought a 24% share in the ATA.
  • The Allell Tourist Authority (ATA) is the current government and is run as a constitutional monarchy. To be eligible to vote however, you must be a shareholder and large pockets of shareholders have formed quasi political parties or voting blocks.
  • There is a deep distrust of off-worlders from the Alellians as they resent the presence of Imperial Nobility on their planet believing that their own Solomani roots are superior to the Vilani heritage of the current usurpers, even the official recognition of Roger the XXII as a Knight has not helped.
  • Large concert hall in the highport with a capacity of over 5000 seats. Great expense was taken to get the acoustics of the hall just right. Behind the stage is a three-story safety-filtered viewport which can be shuttered or reveal space. One of the specialties of the Colosseum (and a tourist draw) is a live orchestral performance coinciding with sunrise over Alell with fresh spring scents released into the air at appropriate points. When not in use for public performances the hall is sometimes used as a sound recording stage for some of Naasirka Entertainment’s more elaborate productions.
  • The urban centres on Alell have tended to sprawl out over large areas with each household having a compound. Buildings are usually built around a central courtyard in a modern take on the ancient Roman style. This style of building is easily defended and can be secured from the outside, a throwback to Alells less civilized colonial era.
  • The surface of Alell is developed and urbanized however there are still remote frontier areas in closer to both poles. The mountainous north is particularly famous for its mountain sports holding an annual downhill skiing event known as Millicents Run.
  • There is a growing republican movement that is trying to oust the royalists from power and has lately become more militant. Amongst the republicans there is hatred of all authoritarian systems of government including the Imperium. Imperial citizens have been assaulted in the past as well as Imperial infrastructure attacked.
  • There is a significant and well-funded security force tasked mainly with policing and peace keeping duties however there has been some off world posting of paramilitary units to other hotspots in a peace keeping role.

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
