Magick is coming back to the world. Are you ready?

Tattered Magicks is a tabletop role-playing game for telling tales of urban fantasy and horror where magick and monsters are real. This world is just like ours, but will soon be challenged by creatures of myth and legend.

You play everyday heroes exposed to the Hidden World, forced to confront creatures of nightmare and shadow alongside wonders you simply won’t believe. The world of Faerie exists, though it’s been closed away for centuries. And this time, the Fae want to take our world as their own.

Tattered Magicks uses the Inverse20 engine, a fast resolution system that utilizes a d20. Included are rules for creating characters, magick, and monsters, plus a starting scenario that provides a quick start to your campaign!

The rules are focused on enabling you to tell exciting stories around modern wizards, Faerie tales, Bigfoot, vampires, werewolves, and many other horrors. It was inspired by movies like Bright and Hellboy, and television shows such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Constantine, The Librarians, Stranger Things, and Warehouse 13

Time to grab a handful of dice, some pencils, some players, and get ready for your next urban fantasy adventure!

Can you expand the preview to actually show something of the mechanics of the system?

The mechanics are based on the same system we used in A&A... Inverse20 is attribute based and tasks involve rolling a d20 under the attribute for a particular action. Spells are purchased in a similar way to special items in A&A, with purchase rolls. And casting is just another attribute check. We cover the attributes here in our podcast -

It would be helpful to say what A&A is because I don't know your other games. Telling me to reference them isn't helpful. And because I am curious, after I finished writing this, I opened up your company have so many products, nothing with A&A in the title or seemingly fitting that description jumped out at me. I mean seriously, how am I supposed to know what you are referencing or even find it in your company page?

Also, and this may just be me, I am not going to listen to a podcast to get an explination for something that should be clear on the for sale page. That's just asking your potential customer to jump through hoops they shouldn't need to. I like the cover. I like the blurb about the setting. But you should tell me how the mechanics work or at least provide a link to somewhere that does so I can decide if I want to buy. Preferably, the preview and the item description should give enough of an idea of how a new game works to sell it to customers.

Hi Matthew!

We'll work on updating the description based on your feedback, but for now:

Inverse20 is a d20 roll under system. You roll against Attributes, and Skills and Traits modify via Advantage/Disadvantage style mechanics. Damage and some sundry rules are handled via D6s, and there's a strong background component to character generation.

It's fast and easy to understand.

Taken directly from the book -- What is Inverse20?

Inverse20 is a simple rules system that offers a fast resolution mechanic quickly adapted at the table to meet the needs of nearly anything your players encounter.

The basic concept is simple: Roll a d20 to get a number equal to or less than a Target Number (TN). The TN is an attribute score on your character sheet such as Athletics for athletic tasks or Education to see if your character remembers something.

Roll a 1 or the TN, that’s a Critical Success (even on impossible tasks). If you roll a 20, that’s a Critical Fail and has various consequences. Depending on the task and your character’s abilities (Traits), the roll may be at an Advantage (roll 2d20 and take the lower number) or a Disadvantage (roll 2d20 and take the higher number).

That’s really it!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
