Solo Game Guide for Savage Worlds

Solo Game Guide for Savage Worlds

SWAG_Logo_2020_Award_600x600.pngThis supplement provides a 15-page toolbox for a solo player to play their own Savage Worlds Wild Card through a series of adventures without a GM.

This booklet provides some simple and common solo roleplaying tools and tunes them to work the way that Savage Worlds works. Ak the questions you ask the GM become more likely to be 'yes' the dice you roll step up through d4, d6 d8, and so on.

For answering more complicated questions, a deck of improvisation prompts is provided attaching meaning to each card in the deck. You can see these in the screenshot below.

The last part of the supplement suggests rules and options from the core rules that work exceptionally well for solo playing.

DriveThruRPG does not support Community Copies. The entire text of this supplement is viewable in the Full-size preview. If you cannot afford the cover price, please feel free to use the preview with my full blessing.

Very interested in this product. Is this compatible with SWADE, or just the original edition of Savage Worlds?

Yes it is. I was under the impression that everything in the SWAG was SWADE compatible, unless stated otherwise. This is is definitely SWADE happy.

Could this be applied for group use?

I find that it works best if the player that asked the question finds the answer. They often have more of an idea of what they had in mind before they asked. That often gives richer descriptions of the spontaneous events than if you are trying to pull them out of nowhere.

Sweet I might pick this up then.

Good read. One question for understanding the intended use of the Closed Question Oracle: What exactly does the Wild Die do in this roll? Does it replace the likelihood die? Is that replacing of results optional for the player, or does it have to be done? (And if it's optional, wouldn't that mean that 'No, and ...' results only ever come up on double ones?)

Peter R January 18, 2021 12:23 pm UTC
Actually, yes, it would take a double one to get a No and...result.
I am going to do a refresh of this PDF soon, and get it ready for a print version. I will make that clear, and add a paragraph on guidance for bennies.

I've been trying hosting a solo game just for fun, and It worked pretty well. Its also a pretty good exercise to get your creative muscles going. Especially with the card drawing mechanic, interpreting the card in the context of the situation can lead to some pretty interesting situations.

That is great. If you pull a card and you cannot think how to apply it in the current scene, keep it out and try and apply it later in your game. It gives your brain longer to think of a good application.

If you come up with a really great answer to what a card means, give yourself a bennie for good roleplaying. That is what a GM would do.

That's a cool idea! Actually, I think guidelines for awarding bennies to yourself should be a rule in the text.

I see there is a picture of a tarot deck. What are major arcana used for?
Customer avatar
Peter R November 21, 2020 2:15 pm UTC
The tarot cards are used for purely artistic purposes in the book. The cards used are traditional poker cards Ace to King.

How many pages is the book? It would help to know so please could you add it to the description?

Rule System(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
