Valley of Plenty

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Due to popular demand, we are re-releasing Valley of Plenty!

The new file is now available. Enjoy the updated adventures and new cults for your Horse Orlanthi!

Valley of Plenty is a campaign source book for Glorantha written for the QuestWorlds rule-system. It is completely compatible with HeroQuest: Glorantha and easily adaptable for use with RuneQuest: Glorantha. The lovingly detailed presentation of the Dundealos tribe’s culture and community is system agnostic.

You can find the QuestWorlds SRD here: Download the SRD – QuestWorlds (chaosium.com)

Valley of Plenty is the first book of The Jaldonkillers Saga, a grand campaign that follows the careers of a band of player characters through the destruction of their tribe, its reconstitution in exile, and the effort to reclaim its lost lands and glory. The saga begins in 1602 and stretches to the Dragonrise and beyond. It is intended as a vehicle to support the development of characters from childhood to Herodom in a fluid but consistent setting, in which players can experience adventures ranging from slice-of-life challenges to world-changing conflicts.

This book details the adventures of a closely-knit clique of youngsters, the Wildlings, from their early childhood through their adulthood rites. Along the way, GMs and players learn about the culture and community that produced the Wildlings in a natural, organic progression. Neither the GM or their players are forced to drink lore from a firehose.

Valley of Plenty features:

  • Detailed description of the Elmal worshipping Dundealos tribe and the Horse Orlanthi
  • Learn a Non-Orlanthi Sartarite culture by beginning play as a Dundealos child
  • Alternate rules for creating child characters
  • Organic development of PC community and family relationships
  • Adventures with escalating risks based on character age
  • Elmal-oriented adulthood rites of the Dundealos
  • Cult descriptions for Elmal, Redalda, and Drogarsi from a non-Orlanthi perspective
  • New shamanic tradition write-up, including spirit societies
  • New cult: Andred
  • Extensive player handouts based on character age
  • 7 scenarios and 6 additional scenario seeds
  • Buckets and buckets of frogs!

Potential triggers in Valley of Plenty include:

  • The interlude charts refer to the deaths of parents and/or siblings. If this is problematic, replace those results with ones of your own.
  • The Manhunt episode revolves around a young boy who is kidnapped to be sold into slave labor. Player characters could face this threat as well. Note that the boy and PCs are in no danger of becoming slaves, but the threat is there.

2nd Ed has added a new cult, the Cult of the Hunter, new scenarios, new story seeds, and seasonal activities for the clan. You should be able to get the new PDF from your account. We're not doing a new POD as of yet, but when we do it will require a new purchase for a hardcopy.

Thanks for the prompt reply! Yes I got the pdf; looks like the changes are quite extensive. Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to run the campaign yet, so I guess I will go with the pdf (if I ever manage to run it...)

Eventually, yes! But we have some hurdles to overcome first (internal stuff, nothing to do with Chaosium or DTRPG).

We are getting ready to re-release VoP with additional content. Following that we are putting out Rise of the Wildlings which will come before Lances at Dusk because we had too much stuff we wanted to do before the Lunars came in and messed things up.

Any news on part 2, I am so close to starting this, but don’t want to get burned with no further books. Not saying this will, but have been burned before.
Thanks.

We are waiting on a couple pieces of art for book 2. There are 2 scenarios that need finished up and then we turn it over to our layout genius. Editing on the finished part of the book is about 50% complete. Our goal is to have Rise of the Wildlings out around the time Valley of Plenty turns 1 or sooner. And book 3 has already been started as well.

Any thoughts on putting out an RQG version or an addendum with RqG stats and so on?

Not at this time. We don't play RQG so it would take time away from working on further books to learn the system and figure out how to do the conversions.

Hi, Jon. I'm sorry you're having issues with your purchase. What pages/titles are giving you trouble? And is there a place you can post a screen grab so we can get a look at it? What device/pdf reader are you using?

There's standard troubleshooting I can recommend, but I'm sure you've heard it all, they are basically the pdf equivalents of turning it off and on again. Delete and redownload, try a different device (if possible), try a different pdf viewer (if available).

If those steps don't resolve the issue you will need to contact customer service on the site for their solution. With community content there's limits to what we can do on here for our customers.

I've got what maybe the identical problem: Headline fonts drop letters and kerning looks terrible. I'm using Mac preview and see problems in osx.10 and osx.15 both. Give me a URL and I'll post some screen captures. Tried a redownload, no help.
Please fix this.

That's odd. All of the layout work was done on a Mac. I've asked our layout person to look into it. Have you tried viewing the file with a different PDF reader?

UPDATE 1: Our layout specialist is looking into the problem, which has only popped up twice and seems to be related to Preview (we've only had two instances of this problem so far). I'll update this thread again when I've heard back from her, hopefully with a fix or work-around.

Getting restless at this end. As you don't want the screen capture I offered 10 days ago, and report no progress, how about this: can you share a no-fancy fonts version of the text, so I can read the pdf I've paid for?

We're sorry for the delay. As Shawn said, we're waiting to hear back from our layout artist. She identified the issue so we do not need screen captures. Did you have any luck with another pdf viewer in the meantime?

Finally got to try it on MacOs 15, Catalina's Preview and it looks fine. Somehow this pdf is unhappy with earlier versions of Apples pdf viewer. FWIW other Johnston Chronicles pdfs display fine on my older Macs.

I'm glad it works for you on a newer PDF viewer. As I said before, the book was developed on a Mac by a Mac user and according to Mac standards - she tested it several iterations back and it worked fine. Sorry you ran into problems with it!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
