Gallant & Bold

I've been musing with the S&W OSR-tree for many years, using its simplicity to developp many games (some I published by the past in french, some I hide in my Drive Disk). I'm also a big user of Searchers of the Unknown (by Nicolas Dessaux, one of my compatriots) and I've developped a hack of my own based on this game.
G&B use the basic architecture of S&W Continual Light (four races, four classes, E7 - perfect for my tastes), with many many twists - I didn't simply copy the texts but use them as a base and then remodel almost everything. For the novelty, you will find : 1/ a unified roll-over mechanics, with advantages and disadvantages. The abilities are 3d6-rolled, but the lower the better. No modifiers, just a roll-over the ability score. So, same mechanics than Saving throws (over save) or Attack Rolls (over AC). And there is the maneuver check (over your own AC) for all the moves and stealth rolls... So only four types of rolls, all the same.
2/ I use damage mechanic that...See more negate all blanck-rounds. If you hit, you roll the damage dice; if you don't hit, you inflict 1 damage per dice. Combats are fast and furious with a unified damage system for the weapons.
3/ There are multiple tools I use for many years (and more will come in the compagnon later) : light and visibility, journey, poisons and diseases, traps. I haven't seen those elsewhere (not in this form, I mean...) I don't say they are the ultimate tools, but they suit me.
4/ then, there is a certain game philosophy : we play heros and heros don't die easily. All characters know how to fight with all weapons and armors. There is a special XP mechanic, very simple and very efficient - playing each week, I generally need one year and half for the characters to level-up to level 7.
5/ there is also a big work on the bestiairy.
That's almost all. G&B is not a copy of an existing game. It use the frame fixed by older "brothers" but try to be its own game... Tell me if I'm wrong (I may be over protective).

G&B is my take on the S&W family-tree (in the Continual Light branch). It derives also from my work on Hunters of the Unknown and Princes&Vagabonds. It propose a unified roll over mechanic - ability checks, save, maneuver checks and attack rolls, all against fixed target numbers. For example, to climb a cliff, you roll against your own (ascendant) AC. Also, all characters are full adventurers (the magic user wears armor and yields swords). There are also may useful tools I never found elsewhere that I use in my campaigns.
I hope that G&B is not just another clone, but brings some new things to game. Else, I wouldn't have publish it (or for free).

I'm with you on the art. A really lovely style. I don't know if I need yet another heartbreaker, but I'm sorely tempted by beautiful art and relative brevity.

I like that climbing mechanic. Very cute.
