Shadowrun: Firing Squad (Core Combat Rulebook)

Watermarked PDF

Someone, somewhere, is about to get hurt.

Guns will come out. Swords will unsheathe. Damage will be done. The same questions are at the center of it all: Who will suffer, and who will survive?

Shadowrunners stare violence in the face daily, deciding how much they’ll inflict, figuring out how they’ll remain alive. They know the prices that must be paid—the hard work of training, the challenge of recovery, and the continual effort to live with what you’ve done. Some shadowrunners develop a code to help them know what to do and what to avoid. Others decide to just develop a short memory.

Firing Squad is the book to help shadowrunners pay those costs. It has new weapons, qualities, and techniques to hone shadowrunners’ combat abilities while also looking at how to develop characters based on the codes they follow and the violence they face. Take your character through new twists and turns and experience the shadows in a brand-new way.

Firing Squad is a core combat rulebook for Shadowrun, Sixth World.

didn't get this one yet but it is a good reference for unique equipment. combat rules in general are quick and dirty as it should be in modern, armed conflicts.

worn armor has it's limits, with too much making movement and vision impossible.
in conflicts with supersonic explosive ammunition, automatic weapons high explosives, survival is more a factor of how lethal the attack over the ability of the defender to avoid being hit completely.
soft vital systems do not to take repeated hits well in this situation without serious degradation even with armor.

If AR/DR did anything useful in 6e, this book might be useful.

I did a quick scan of the book (twice). Armor had a new column, called Social. I assume that's a bonus/penalty to your (the player's) social rolls, but it'd be nice if there was a description somewhere saying so.
Also, does this mean the armor in the core book has Social +0?

Pg 96, Yielding Force: Name is wrong font size and isn't underlined.

The armor in the core book do not have Social 0. They are listed with their numbers on the second-to last table in Firing Squad along with the armors that were introduced in Firing Squad.

Aha. I didn't think to look at the tables. I just assumed the were copy/paste.

Page 50, there's a sidebar explaining how to use the social rating. Its a compare ratings to gain edge in social encounters thing similar to how AR/DR works with armour.

Love how the art from the preview would probably have looked better as line art back in the 90s.

Well, just like Catalyst's editing, the art in 6e is inconsistent.

I don't know about that. I find their editing to be very consistent, since it doesn't exist.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
