It's a dangerous path the adventurer treads, filled with wonders and terrors, cunning foes and enchanting mysteries. They meet incredible people, discover powerful treasure, explore extraordinary environments, make desperate sacrifices, and celebrate triumphant victories. Constant obstacles and tragedies befall them, yet they endure, overcome, and chase adventure anew.

Chasing Adventure is a fast-paced game about daring adventurers in a dangerous fantasy world. Players create formidable would-be-heroes who meet incredible people, discover powerful treasure, explore extraordinary environments, make desperate sacrifices, and celebrate triumphant victories. Constant obstacles and tragedies befall them, yet they endure, overcome, and chase adventure anew.

This is a game about taking exciting risks, about deciding if it’s worth it to keep pushing forward and risk falling to an enemy, or if it’s safer to take a break and give the Ominous Forces in the world a chance advance their agendas. It is a game where death itself is rare, but consequences are many. Where you act boldly, recklessly even, and live to regret it later.

How will your adventure unfold?

--

This is the full version of the game, which includes over 40 additional pages. The Advanced Play chapter has sections on Optional Rules, PvP, Writing Drives, Analyzing and Writing Moves and Playbooks, and Playing Solo or in an Open Table. It also includes examples and writing guides for Adventure Starters, to jump into the action fast, and for Legends, mini-playbooks that expand a PC’s capabilities.

As mentioned in the review, I bought the product and I love it, but I have some questions about its design you might be able to help me with.
On travel and journeys, I see there's a lack on moves there unless you are tracking someone. I somewhat miss to see some "journey" moves similar to Perilous wilds or Freebooters of the Frontier. Is there any reason why nothing of this kind was added?

Thanks Jon, I'm glad you're enjoying the game and appreciate the review. I don't have a general travel move because I didn't want straightforward travel to play any differently than the base conversation.

Typically when everyone travels and there isn't a written move, the table look to the GM to see what happens and they can make a GM Move. Change the Environment is obvious and assumed, but they could also Hit the Ground Running by skipping straight to the PC's arriving at their destination, or they could Introduce Something New by having them stumble upon an unexpected threat on the way, or they could Slow Down For A Bit by having a peaceful conversational scene among the PCs as they travel. There is a lot of flexibility here and the GM is able to easily guide the adventure in a way that feels exciting and interesting.

Some travel-related moves, including Dungeon World's, tend to inflict negative consequences such as a loss of time or resources. These consequences tend to be narratively...See more

Are you planning on releasing a physical book version of the game. If so, do you know about when? Thanks.

It looks like the version on Itch was updated in January 2023. How does this version differ?

Sorry, it looks like DTRPG doesn't notify me when someone comments on one of my games.

This version should be identical to the Itch version, it's just a matter of preference for which site you want to purchase the game on.

A great update to the Dungeon World foundation. I love the "conditions" aspect instead of this arbitrary number that is HP.

I noticed in the rules that the players will still gain XP if they decide to lock a condition. Have you had any players intentionally crumble and kind of "farm" that locked stat for XP? I realize that they are rolling without the additional stat but for some like the +2 turning into a +1 it's not all that terrible given that each time they roll it they gain an XP (and only 5 are needed to level up).

I haven't played this yet and am not sure if players would think or attempt to do that. I would almost enforce a player to have to remove any locked conditions when they level up before being able to chose anything else. Then death is a sort of delayed level since for the next 5 XP it'll end up being used to unlock that stat.

Does that make sense?

Sorry, it looks like DTRPG doesn't notify me when someone comments on one of my games.

Since your comment I've updated conditions to grant Disadvantage instead of a -1, so the penalty is more severe. I still have had someone intentionally gain conditions through Pushing Themselves, but that's intended to be a legitimate (if dangerous) way to play and when it happened at my table the narrative was impacted accordingly, with 6- rolls happening more frequently due to that.

I've also updated Crumble to advance Ominous Forces (aka bad stuff for the PCs) each time it happens, so the PCs are encouraged to avoid fully Crumbling.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
